Tough Road to Big Ten Baseball Championship
Even though Nebraska comes in as the second overall seed in a conference tournament in its home state, the road to a Big Ten tournament championship won't be easy. NU opens the double-elimination tournament in Omaha against Ohio State. While the Huskers swept the Buckeyes in Lincoln this season, each game was won by a single run. Should Nebraska get by OSU, they will likely face Illinois who they edged out 2 games to 1 in Lincoln with each team scoring 10 runs over the series.
Another win there would likely put them up against Iowa, Michigan or Minnesota. Iowa won the three game series over NU in Iowa City and Michigan took one of three in Ann Arbor losing the series by just a pair of runs. Nebraska easily handled the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis. But even a win there would likely bring up Indiana in the championship game, who has gone 22-2 in it's last two dozen conference games.
That's actually the easiest path to victory. Should the Huskers stumble in either of their first two games, then they'd likely have to beat Indiana twice (in addition to winning another pair of games).
The Huskers are hot, having won 9 of 10. Still the margin for error is slim. Hopefully the friendly confines of the Cornhusker state give NU an edge.
