HUSKER UP: Missouri

To hear some media types talk, you would think NU has no chance on Saturday... "Woe to Nebraska. The Husker defense isn't any good. Missouri has a great offense. The game is at night. The Tigers are favored. I don't see how the Huskers can win. And, yada yada yada." Well I say...screw that. Pardon me, but it is time for some folks to HUSKER UP! Add with the bile I sense from the Missouri side of this contest, and it makes me a little angry. Maybe you feel it too. So, BRN is hear to bring you a dose of motivation as the weekend looms large.

The Pig That Roared
Let's start with the most notable quote of this week. It comes courtesy of Missour safety Cornelius "Pig" Brown...

"We've got to kill those guys," Brown said of Nebraska. "I just want to kill them. We need to beat them by three touchdowns or more."

Thanks Pig, for helping to decorate the inside of the Husker lockeroom this week. All you did was fan the fire. Calling for a win is one thing, putting an amount on the victory is a special kind of stupid.

"Gold Rush"...Seriously?
There is a LOT of hype surrounding the game, much of it centered on activities that have nothing to do with football. For starters, MU officials have called for a "gold rush" game, where fans dress in gold.

This has created speculation that the Tigers themselves may come on to the field in all gold uniforms. Man, I hope they do. Situational or "special" uniform choices have a history of blowing up in a lot of teams' faces. And, with a team with MU's futility in hyped situations, it could be especially bad.

AV Club Feels Downright Provoked
With the lockeroom chatter, specialty color choices and especially lots of fan-fueled smack talk about making Husker Hell in Columbia this week, frankly we're feeling a bit provoked. Seriously MU, we're doing this? You want the attention of Husker Nation? Guess what, folks...you got it.

From our head coach all the way down to our youngest of fans, you've got our attention. Now, can you live with it? I believe the Big Red attitude on Saturday could resemble that of Wyatt Earp as protrayed by Kurt Russell in the movie Tombstone. THIS is what happens when you provoke a bad ass.

Wow. Jeez I am pissed off right now. Saturday night can't get here fast enough. Cue the band...

Thanks Darren for getting the Husker Nation pumped up for this game!

Come on folks.. we are 4-1!  Are you really giving up on the season?

Let’s get the paper tigers!

“You tell ‘em I’m comin’....And hell’s comin’ with me!  HELL’S COMIN’ WITH ME!”

Badass.

Remember Notre Dame and the green jerseys?  That didn’t work out too well for Brady Quinn.  Let them wear all gold - wouldn’t that be hideous looking?

Times were when Nebraska didn’t need “bullitin board” material. They just kicked ass and took names (mostly). Things sure change. I’m seeing a disturbing pattern here.

Oh hush OU7times.

I bet the douche bag Boz gave the Corn bulletin board material in his day.

No team’s exempt from it.

Jeremy, Did the corn do anything with said bulletin board material during the Bosworth era? As I remember, NO. If Nebraska loses tomorrow, will your feelings be hurt because MU didn’t give you enough BB material to “work with”? If you are wondering, Jeremy, the over/under on MU fans getting knocked out by NU plyers is set at 3. How are you betting?

I will take the over on that, you would to if you have been to a game!  There the last 2 years.

A fact about Husker Nation is that we are a bunch of perfectionist who want to see total domination in every part of the game.  Last year we complained about special teams and the running game…this year its the defense. In the Osborne era, we complained about the conservative play calling, “can’t win the big one”, and the occasional let down with teams we should have dominated.

We all reflect on the finger tip Matt Davidson snag in the end zone, yet we forget Missouri should not even been in the game.  When NU didn’t show up emotionally and dominate teams they should have, many people complained that the team reflected the personality of their “un-emotional” coach and couldn’t get “up” for games.

Even in the glory years, the Huskers had numerous times they could have used an emotional kick in the pants…so it certainly doesn’t hurt to light a fire under them this year against the Tigers…thank you Mr Brown!

Thanks for practice…

-Love,

Everyone @ The Zou

good thing you guys made Pig look stupid for his comments, good thing the gold rush was a let down.  Nebraska football is history…
