HUSKER UP: Colorado
Hey Husker fans, it's time to HUSKER UP, Thanksgiving style. If you are reading this on Thanksgiving day, it is probably because you are trying to hide out from your family, or maybe your travel plans got delayed or cancelled. Or maybe you are sitting there, whip cream stuck in the corner of your mouth, pants open, trying to avoid a turkey-induced coma. I shudder at that image. In any case, I know you are in need of some good HUSKER UP to get you ready for Friday's tilt with the Buffalos. I'll do my best.
Callahan's Last Ride?
Maybe you want Callahan fired. Maybe you think he should stay. Though, I doubt anyone is indifferent on the subject. So, for this week's quotation, I turn to Coach Callahan's reaction to how he's preparing for this game, in the face of such powerful speculation.
“I'm not worried about next week, next month or next year for that matter. I'm just really focused on this game. That's all I'm focused on is the preparation and performance of our team against Colorado. That's where I've been for the last week or so in my mindset and focus, and I hope our team has the same way. No disrespect, but we're just focused on Colorado.
Gee, it sounds like he is...focused. I genuinely hope the team is too, and that they can fight for a win to extend their season.
Back in the day...Game of the Century
For those in need of some Thanksgiving weekend game nostalgia (and boy am I one of them...), I offer Johnny the Jet Rodgers, who will tear 'em lose from their shoes.
AV Club Presents: 2005
Remember that time NU "Restored the Order"? Wasn't that great?
Okay seriously, I offer this video from 2005 for a lot of reasons. First, I like the music (Thunderstruck) better than the 2006 highlights I found. Next, it partly features the antics of CU's dreadful fans. Typical. But, mostly, I present it because it was one of the only truly good watershed moments of Callahan's tenure as coach. I sat down to watch this game with a lot of dread in my heart, fearing the worst for my beloved Huskers. And, they defied or exceeded expectations with a nice win. That sort of uplift was few and far between in recent years.
Cue The Band
Okay, hit it band...
I only hope we get the chance to play that song again this season.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I don’t think I’m going out on too much of a limb here by saying that I love Nebraska straight up, on this game. I really like the 4 1/2 pts also! Wouldn’t it be just like Callahan to “complicate” things by coming up with a big win, with what is perceived to happen on Saturday? As far as trick plays? There certainly has seemed to be a shortage of them from “Billy C” this year. I have no stats to back that up but it seems to me to be so, compared to last year, but then again, it’s his swan song and will probably keep auditioning for another job. The Buffs played “lights out” against OU (an excellent efort)and probably won’t be up to the task to play lights out (against NU’s offensive point outbursts) again this season, especially being late season, what with injuries and fatigue from a whole season behind them. I would have to agree that WHEN Callahan is let go Saturday, he probably will not stick around to coach a bowl because it’s already money in his pocket, regardless. Personally, I wouldn’t give Callahan a chance to soil Nebraska’s reputation ,any further, by allowing him to coach a bowl game when he knows he won’t be back. DON’T TRUST THE GUY! Beat the Buffs BIG RED!! GBR

Happy Decimation of Native American Culture Day!
Alright, maybe that was too PC, but hey, I live in the People’s Republic of Massachussets.
No family out here, so usually spend this day chillin’; usually get back to NE at X-mas, though the last time there I had to be restrained from kicking my bro-in-laws a$$ at X-mas dinner—he’s a ambulance chaser, I’m a carpenter—need I say more?
Awesome highlights, dudes! That ‘05 game was sweet and appeared to be Calli’s breakout win in addition to the bowl victory over coach Carr & the Weasels. Seeing ‘Flotsom’ field strewn with litta’ and “....Security, Puffy Fan be haulin…”(to quote a noteworthy blog poet) was a thing of beauty.
NE should whip Puffs again this year, considering they’re coming off losses to Mizzou, KSU, & ‘Clones and if The Joey-nator IS, in fact, the real deal. Which leads me to introduce some ‘food’ for thought on this fine holiday:

Happy Thanksgiving—turkeys!
So, let me take a quick break from my soil studies and sock counting to consider this Ganz issue from a slightly different angle.
Let’s say that this new found infatuation for Joey Ganz is not, in fact, just another opportunity for Calli hater fan to futher diss Calli and every microscopic aspect of his being. Let’s say that Joey is, in fact, the real deal(based on his showings in 2.2 games). Let’s say Ganz is better than Keller(who clearly has character flaws, heaven forbid), Zac T, Zac L, Patrick W, Harrison B, and, hypothetically Josh F and Blaine G; oh, last but not least, the cagey Beau Davis.
Furthermore, let’s predict that Joey G conducts blowouts vs the touted Puffs and an intimidating 6-6 bowl foe. To follow this anecdote to it’s logical conclusion would require a return of Darth Calli for at least one more season such that Super Joey can complete his tenure with Big Red RUNNING THE SYSTEM OF O THAT HE HAS SO DILIGENTLY SPENT THE LAST 3-4(?) YEARS MASTERING—correct?—and seems to be the perfect fit(miraculously) for.
Joey G, in one of this weeks press conferences(Huskers.com), strongly suggested that this is the scenario that he would like to see play out since it would be a pain in the a$$ to go thru the laborious process of learning a new system and taking 3/4s of the season to get a handle on it in ‘real time’.
So, is NE Fan’s new found love affair with Joey TRUE LOVE, or just a ‘passing’ fancy? That is, does Calli hater fan put his/her own self centered whims and 24/7 Calli Bash aside and consider the desires of the new found savior—Joey G—first?

ou7,
p.s., it gives me pain that the Mighty Sooners went down to yucky TTech! Too bad Bradford got ‘tazed’ in that one. Hope he’s back vs Okie St.
Geez, looks like Demarco ‘Billy Sims’ Murray will be out—OUCH!

Nice highlights….fun game.
The scene of their “fans” throwing objects on the field during the game pretty much backs up what I’ve always said and seen at games in Boulder. Hopefully the NU fans going there for the game tomorrow come out okay.
Not sure what the future holds for BC but I have my opinion and it’s out of my control. Just like last week, this game should be for the players. It’s not up to the players to save BC’s job, it’s his own. He has had his chances and I don’t think the results are where they should be this far into it.
Tomorrow is about the game. My opinion won’t change about what I think needs to be done. And I know what I think should be done might not happen but whatever happens I’m still a fan of this team. I think this game could go either way but I like our chances.
