For the Record

As I write, Nebraska and Oklahoma are still three hours from kickoff. Nevertheless, one thing is apparent. Bo Pelini’s most important coaching job begins after this game ends. Win or lose. Close game or not competitive. This is the kind of game that can give a team a hangover. A team can either get a little too full of itself or a little too disappointed. In either case, the coaches have to help the team focus on it’s next opponent and the rest of the season or things could begin to spiral.

Huskers win in a blowout? Get over it.

Huskers get blown out? Get over it.

Close win? Get over it.

Close loss? (I think you get the point).

Kansas probably helped the NU coaches a bit by stomping a mudhole in Kansas State. They also stomped one in the Huskers in Lawrence a year ago. That’s a team that deserves NU’s full attention.

The Huskers can squander a victory over the Sooners if they half-ass it going into the rest of the season. They can compound a loss by wallowing or losing confidence in what they’re doing. Tonight’s contest is a big game, but it’s only one game.

Bo Pelini has a big job tonight. But the biggest part begins when the game ends.
