Huskers 2006 Volleyball National Champs

Congratulations to the Husker women's volleyball team for winning the National Championship! The Huskers defeated #2 Stanford in front of a NCAA record crowd of 17,209 at the Qwest Center in Omaha Saturday night.
This was the sixth trip to the finals for the Huskers, including two championships in 1995 and 2000. Only Stanford has won more NCAA titles with six.
Junior outside hitter, Sarah Pavan, was named AVCA National Player of the Year earlier this week. She, along with teammates Jordan Larson, Tracy Stalls and Rachel Holloway were named to the all-tournament team.
The Huskers finish the season 33-1, with their only loss coming from Colorado on November 11th.
There will be a National Championship Celebration on Sunday, December 17th at 11:00 AM at the Coliseum. The event will be broadcast Sunday evening on Huskers.com.

With the final four at the Qwest the volleyball writers of the nation have had the opportunity to see firsthand why Husker volleyball has been a national power for the past 15 years. With a highschool program that currently has nearly 50 girls playing D1 volleyball nationwide, Nebraska has made a statement to the spectators. The college coaches already knew it. Until our football program returns again to national prominence, it is great to have a sport in which our team can send shudders through the opposition.

It was truly a magical event to be at. We went both nights. As the football fans are known to be the GOAT due to their hospitality, we did our part to pass on that moniker to the volleyball crowd by congratulating the losers. What a group of ladies? 3.64 GPA as a team average, are you kidding me? It was also nice to see the Taylors there routing for the team (Sherwood could not make it). I put in the good word with Zac that if football doesn't work out, we'd like to see him back as a coach ;).

u guys kicked but in the pac 10 championship.i was watching u girls play minnesots i think and i thought yall were going to lose because yall were down 0-2 but nope yall came back and won it all and u grls have been my favorite team since forever.thanks for playing such a great season and things.email me back..
