What’s Scary About Colorado?
What's scary about Colorado is what's always been scary. They hate Nebraska. They circle their game with the Huskers as being the most important on their schedule, even if Nebraska doesn't grant them the same respect. They can't claim the upper hand in the long history of the series or even the most recent history, so going out with a win would mean everything to their fans and their in-state players. They're also in a desperate position. They need to win now for their head coach. Since his son is on the team, that means that they'll probably want to play for him. And the game against Nebraska just might be for bowl eligibility. Meanwhile, it's conceivable that the Huskers may have already locked up the division when the teams meet.
But beyond these sort of psychological/motivational issues is the CU team itself. They lose very few players that were starting a year ago. So they should be better along the offensive and defensive lines and at the skill positions.
Historically, Nebraska has usually gone into these games as the favorite - and rightly so. But often, the games end up being way more competitive than you'd expect to see on paper. Sometimes the outcome is downright stunning.
Maybe Colorado isn't what most Nebraskans would call a rival. But against the Huskers, they've certainly played like one. And that makes the stakes just a little bit higher and the game just a little bit scarier.

Whether they’re playing the role of “wounded animal,” or victim, they’re always a headcase, even when things are looking up, for them.
Not sure why, but I haven’t seen a single Nebraska based article that lamented the end of the Colorado series. There HAD to have been at least one. Maybe a story from the Chadron paper, or something.
If you look at the ingredients in their emotion stew, wow, it could look like a list from a cereal box. Utter contempt for Nebraska, false sense of entitlement, premature arrogance. A continual craving for revenge. Generational bafflement over why they haven’t had similiar success.
Soon, but not soon enough, they’ll be someone else’s sickly sweet smelling, clingy mess.
Other than that, I’ve always admired Colorado’s players themselves- their effort and passion. The games have made for compelling, intensely entertaining theatre.
Which has only fed the beast, in their fan base.

The scariest thing about Colorado is that no matter how bad that team actually is, they will THINK they can play with Nebraska.
This has always been a 1-sided rivalry.
(Yes, rivalry. There I said it.)
But one that has provided some surprising efforts from the Buffaloes.
This one ALWAYS scared me… it is just now, in the final year of the series, that I am able to admit it.

All I can say is ” Go CSU” . Even after the Rams beat CU on their home field last year, CU is still not giving them any respect.
