Awe…Bo Pelini is a Great Dad
Say what you want about Bo Pelini as a football coach. The man makes a lot of money and his results are displayed on Saturdays in the Fall. But, as fans, we seldom see in to the personal lives of coaches. Last night's Duke-North Carolina basketball game gave us a quick look at Pelini as a father. Pelini was at Cameron Indoor Stadium (proof). Why? It wasn't because he is a hoops junkie. It wasn't to learn from Coach K or Roy. It wasn't to recruit in North Carolina. He was there because the trip and the game was a birthday gift to his son, who is a Duke fan. This is another clear illustration of Pelini the family man. He has his kids with him on the field after Husker games. He's been spotted going to their activities and games around Lincoln. His daughter's art work hangs in his office. And, now he gives a very cool birthday gift to his son. That all lends credibility to a coach who describes his team culture and environment as a "family" setting, and puts a softer side to the coach who is too often depicted as a screaming hard case. Bo Pelini - the father - is a guy more people would like to meet and know.

Yea, great.
Other swell gifts received was a chest protector and a spit guard mask.
Darren is right, Pelini is too often depicted as a screaming hard case…because well, he too often acts out as a screaming hard case.
Not impressed.
Why is a BRN member trying to convince us all that Pelini is a human being after all and is capable of doing what millions of fathers do everyday for their children?
I would really be impressed by Pelini if he could just start treating other people’s kids like he does his own son.

Millions of fathers fly their kids halfway across the country every day to see a game? Good thing my dad passed away a number of years back or he and I would have to have a long talk. Thanks to OU7times I now realize just how deprived I was as a child!
2/14/2013
You are a loser OU7times. BO wasn’t doing it for publicity he was doing it for his son.
2/14/2013
Maybe I was too hard on dear ol’ dad. After all, back then most people traveled by steamship or wagon train, so on any given day the number of fathers taking their sons to a game 1500 miles away may well have been down in the hundreds of thousands.

@ OU7
Far too many coaches (Self admitted Urban Meyer) are known to sacrifice their families for their careers and far too many other fathers don’t have a thing to do with their kids. Bo had an opportunity to do something special with and for his kid and did so. It’s a nice story between the end of recruiting and the start of Spring Training that shows another side of the man. Nothing more.
Why is it so hard for you to read a human interest post for what it is and move along? You deny that Bo is even a human being? Really?
I need to quit reading the comments on this site and stick to the stories.

All of the things described are what normal parents do - display artwork, attend events, involve them when you, and try to give them their dream gifts when possible. Why is this an article?
2/15/2013
It is a story because it is called human interest. AS stated above big time coaches, CEO etc are so involved in making money they do not take the time to be a family man.
Money will not by you time with your children after they grow.
Take a look around at the so called stars or big business people, what is the divorce rate or multiple children with multiple partners, compared to the average person.
This story is just one showing that in today’s world, with win at all costs mentality, he takes the time to be a family man.
Do not think it is news? Do not read it.

I dont get why this is an article either. Why wouldn’t he do any of that stuff. The differance is that Bo somehow got a head coaching job at UN and can afford to do that kind of stuff for his children. Dont worry OU7 im a losser to. When my boys have a bday i usually just get them a welder or a plasma cutter.

Thumbs up on this article. No doubt Pelini puts his family first and in this day in age I applaud him.

Leave it to a true Sooner fan and Gilligan to spew some cyber-bully bs over a simple fluff article about someone they know nothing about.
Thanks for the chuckles guys.

Yea, it’s common but when Bo Pelini does it it’s somehow a big deal and news worthy.
It couldn’t be that during an article the author says ’ Hey, we noticed Bo Pelini and his son at the game’ or that he displays his kids artwork in his office. WHO DOESN’T?
Damage control is what that’s about. Gosh, we get to see the great strides he’s made this next season!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Just remember, this is a point of contention because he’s the one who has soiled his own name, not I. And I mean SOILED!
Let’s just be clear on one thing, It’s my job to point out all of his smoke and mirrors ways because I’m not a Big Red Robot.
Be mad at me because I told you from the beginning of last season (actually, for about 3-4 years) how Bo would make a mess of this team. And I’m a loser…you wouldn’t know a loser if he was chewing gum, abusing athletes, snarling and flashing his rodent teeth and pretending to be a football coach, all at the same time. All on NU’s dime.
Do us real college football fans and fire your AD…and make your coach drive the moving van since he’s already dressed for it. Haa haa. Jesus that’s funny stuff.
BTW, you gotta love how Urban Meyer comes in after one year and starts punking out all the other Big 10 coaches on their recruiting.
I’d say he’s made himself at home.
Ladies, when are you going to clean this mess up?

@ Admiral,
Don’t listen to these couch quarterbacks comments. You see, they have been kneed in the nuts so long they are convinced it feels good.
Yuk yuk yuk.

Hey OU,
“It’s my job to point out ...” and I’m sure you’re getting paid what you’re worth!
“Do us real college football fans ...” sorry, you’ll just have to do yourself tonight.
“Ladies, when are you going to clean this mess up?” See above.

Thanks for keeping an article on the site everyday. Good or bad just happy to read something.

I’m not sure what a “losser” is?
Did you mean “tosser”? Because, yeah… that’s you.
2/16/2013
The semen and okie are just miserable with their lives and successful mma careers. Anyone can sit behind the screen and anonymously attack others. Step up and shut up. Like Matt said, be happy you have something to read. And ou, we divorced you and let you keep the kids, its just getting akward now.

I suspect that in my zealousness,(hey, I make up words when I need them) I forget that Bo is a real person and not just an intense football coach and that he cares deeply about the young athaletes entrusted to his care and guidance. I’m also sure that the press tries to show him in as unfavorable image as much as they can. It’s the nature of the beats of the press, who,(in my opinion) are just as zealous in their (gun guaranteed)
freedom to deamonize just about anyone they feel like with impunity.
