Kenny Bell Commits
Boulder wide receiver/defensive back prospect Kenny Bell gave his verbal commitment to Nebraska on Tuesday. On paper, he looks a great deal like cornerback Prince Amukamara. At 6'2" and 173 lbs., he could play on either side of the ball for the Huskers.
His recruitment couldn't come at a better time. The Huskers were still in need of help at wide receiver, but also could be needing to replace Amukamara as there has been some talk about him jumping to the NFL. Bell had offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, and Texas Tech (among others).
Bell gets a three-star rating (as did Amukamara). He rates a 5.7 on the Rivals scale, just one tenth of a point below four-star status.

Prince won't jump, he's just testing the waters. He'll do the same thing Suh did and elevate his draft status with another year of tutelage under the Pelinis (and let's not forget Marvin Sanders).

He could be a top five pick next year if he sticks around and has the kind of year he should have when was the last NU had a top five pick two years in a row?

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away the mantra used to be that your best athlete was your QB. What I really like about what Coach Pelini is doing regarding recruiting is that we have athletes that can play possibly two positions. QB's that could possibly play Rover/Free (Martinez), WR's that can transition to the Secondary in general (Bell). Besides getting good football players you get a "dual use" recruit who could help the team out in multiple ways. . .
What a powerful incentive as well. House of Spears was potential and athleticism, and then Coach Pelini got hold of him and turned him into an All-Time Husker Great. Amukamara was potential and athleticism as well, now flirting with the possibility of leaving early as a late first-rounder. Coaching sure does go a long way. . .

Ty--don't be too sure about that. If Prince can even get a strong second to third-round projection, I would say he's gone.
Remember--the 2011 NFL strike looks to be a certainty, and that would put the kibosh on Prince receiving a six or seven-figure check when he graduates.
Agents are hammering this big-time, and they may have a point. The kids that will be hurt the worst by this will be those leaving in 2010, as they may be drafted, but won't be able to play (and thus receive a paycheck) come the following season.
And if the kids haven't played a down yet, I don't know if the NFLPA will cover them during a work stoppage. I thought you had to kick in X years/money before the NFLPA would cover you during a stoppage.
Anyone have any info on this?

But by the same token, Matt, wouldn't a degree in hand be the best bet for income during uncertain times? Best argument I can think of to keep this awesome wave of talent from just jumping ship this time next year.
