CBSSports.com Blogpoll #13

I'm already starting to feel sorry for TCU. Nobody seems to be playing better football than the Horned Frogs right now. They have a truly multiple offense--pro sets, Wild Frog, spread, whatever it takes--the offensive playmakers to make that style work, their usual stout defense and almost no chance at playing for the national title unless one of the top three encounters a major upset in their respective rivalry games to end the season (FSU, Auburn and Ag. & Mech. respectively.)

But here's the great thing about my rekindled love for TCU: Nebraska, if they can get past Kansas State on Saturday, might be the best chance for the Frogs to get their shot. Should that happen, please know TCU fans that you will be more than welcome across town at the Big 12 Championship game. We'll bring extra red shirts, you bring your "Frogs for Nebraska" signs and we'll all have a big ball in cowtown when it's over. Eating Saltine crackers, 10-cents a pound, of course.

Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Arizona (#20), Texas Tech (#23), South Florida (#24).

IN
Wisconsin for quietly getting to 8-2, Clemson for C.J. Spiller, and Nebraska because I'm biased.

OUT
Outside of Arizona, who lost to a Best-less Cal, you could make a case for Tech and USF staying in the polls but that's really no fun, is it?

METHODOLOGY

--Texas feels like a hungry team that smells the national championship game dinner cooking. For a minute on Saturday, while Baylor was answering the Horns opening touchdown drive by moving the football pretty easily, I thought maybe Nebraska's win at Baylor was looking a lot better. Then Texas became Texas and 40 points later it was halftime.
--Who wants to play Stanford right now? If the Huskers can win the North they might get their shot in the Holiday Bowl. Or, depending on what happens with Oklahoma State, maybe they get a crack at LSU in the Cotton. Either way, I like those match-ups. Stanford is probably the more dangerous of the two. LSU has underwhelmed me all season long.
--Assuming Pittsburgh can win the Backyard Brawl in two weeks and Cincinnati can get past Illinois, the Panthers and Bearcats could be the most intriguing regular season game left on the schedule.

I have to agree that TCU has been the most impressive team up to this point when it comes to consistancy. And their Clemson win looks better and better each week. I would love the idea of TCU fans coming to Dallas to cheer on the Huskers as long as they can shed the purple for the red of Nebraska.

Sorry, but I don't feel the least bit sorry for TCU. What was it, 2001, when they tried to make a run and they whined and complained about being left out, and they had canceled a 2 for 1 with Nebraska at the last minute?

Sorry, but no thanks--would rather they just stay home and pray to the Baby Jesus and leave the tailgating space to the Nebraskans that will invade the Death Star.
