Wha' Happened at the Big Recruiting Weekend
There was a lot of excitement into the recruiting weekend for Nebraska's 300th consecutive sellout against Louisiana-Lafayette. The team seemingly hit all of its marks on the field and the rumor had it going into the weekend that at least two recruits were considering making a commitment on the visit. So, Wha' Happened?
Don't forget Bo Pelini's style when it comes to recruiting. He doesn't believe in pressuring kids for verbal commitments. That it's on the kid's timeline, not his timeline. So we may yet see two (or more) recruits from that weekend ultimately come to Nebraska. One good sign is that so far, only one of the visitors have scheduled official visits elsewhere.
Let's review the visitors. Cornerback Ciante Evans was already committed to Nebraska and that's unchanged. Four-star defensive end Chase Rome is committed to Oklahoma State and that hasn't changed (though, history says a committed player that makes visits to other schools could change his mind). Miami safety/receiver prospect still leans to hometown Miami (who's offered him). The door would still seem open for Nebraska, if only because he hasn't yet committed to the Hurricanes. You'd think the job security of head coach Randy Shannon could be a factor. Four-star Miami receiver Josh Reese, also left without committing. He seemed like a longshot given schools like Florida are after him. Texan wide receiver Bud Sasser has not committed but there are indications that the Longhorns may now be after him, so if he had dreams of playing in Austin, he might be hard to pull in. Four-star junior college tight end Chase Harper is thought to be leaning toward Nebraska.
Wide receiver/safety prospect Bobby Swigert is the lone player with another visit scheduled. He'll head to Boston College this weekend. He's likely to make a decision in the next four weeks, so the trip to Boston could help NU's chances as much as it could hurt them.
No, Nebraska didn't get the two pledges that some predicted, but they still seem very much "alive" for each of these players and may ultimately find the weekend was indeed a big success.

What sort of odds could you have gotten backing zero in the "number of commitments will have in the week following Super Sellout 300"?
30-1?
