Rex Burkhead Out with a Foot Injury

Bo Pelini just confirmed that backup running back Rex Burkhead injured his foot and will be out for an unspecified amount of time.

Pelini said, "We'll be all right. I feel bad for him. He's a good football player. A tough kid."

The injury apparently happened during practice and leaves the Huskers thin at running back. Roy Helu, the only other running back on the depth chart, suffered an apparent shoulder injury at the end of the Missouri game.

Pelini wasn't as clear on Helu's status which appears to leave the door open for him to play Saturday.

Obviously, we'll be keeping an eye on this and will have more analysis on what it means for the Husker offense.

Uh, not good. We're thin enough as it is. . .

What is the medical redshirt rule again? If Rex were to not return, would he be eligible?

I think it's something along the lines of playing 30% of available games. 5/14 = 36%, so if I'm correct on the 30% rule, then he won't be elegible.

I feel bad for Rex, and here's hoping he gets back to his old form sooner rather than later.

BTW, would Mendoza be the next in line then...?

Good teams overcome adversity. Someone else is just going to have to step up and make some plays. No excuses. Helu's backup doesn't have to be superman. He just has to find the hole and make a defender or two miss and move the chains.

I'm from Rex's hometown and I bought tickets for the Nebraska Baylor game...I really hope he gets better and can play!

Rex IS SUPERMAN! =) He'll be fine. He did well against my school, and I'm happy for him, even though it stung.

Love ya buddy! Get well soon!
