CBSSports.com BlogPoll Ballot #8
There were some close calls this week, particularly in the Big 12, that really could've shaken things up. Iowa State was literally inches away from taking a lead with less than a minute left against KU and Ag. & Mech. hung with Oklahoma State for much of the game. Both of the favorites pulled it out, however, and the result is a poll that's pretty static.
One place we are seeing movement is at the top. After thinking Alabama has looked like the best team in the country for the past few weeks, I finally just put them there. No disrespect to Florida or Texas but the on field results have been pretty clear.
On to the poll...

OUT
The SEC has the top two teams in the poll, but beyond that it feels a lot like the ACC in terms of unpredictability. This week Ole Miss and Auburn fall out so South Carolina can take their place but that could all change next week. Tennessee is off this week, but they could be the next to step in to the rankings. Just have to beat 'Bama. (If you like defense, that's your game). Stanford? We hardly knew ye.
IN
It's much harder to find teams to add to the polls. Can't keep South Carolina out at 5-1 and I'm looking forward to having Spurrier coach in some big games as the season goes on. Beyond the Cocks, welcome to the fold USF and Utah.
METHODOLOGY
--With the lack of movement there's not too much to explain this week. I actually moved LSU up a spot because they looked better losing to Florida than they had in any other game I've seen them play, but I still have them lower than most.
--Ironically, I'm leaving Nebraska at #9 but I don't feel as confident about that as I did two weeks ago.
--Boston College probably came into the VT game on Saturday a little overvalued, but man did the Hokies explode on the Eagles. Virginia Tech might be putting together a SPECIAL season if they can get past Georgia Tech on the road this week.

Winning ugly is still a win, but its getting to the time of year when style points matter. The Husker offense needs to step up. I don't know if it's personnel, schemes, play calling, or execution and I don't care. Whatever it is it needs to be fixed before Saturday. I think Gilmore said the right thing, "Do your job or someone else will." I hope the players understand that loud and clear. I don't know what to make of the Blackshirt issue, or if its even an issue. Probably a fan thing, but you know deep down those players covet them. If Pelini is going to use them as a carrot, at what point does handing them out become an after thought to the point its almost a joke? After they play that illusive perfect game? The Blackshirts are a proud tradition at Nebraska. We saw what BC did to our records and traditions, I thought Pelini had more respect for them.
GBR!

What are we playing for here? This is not a National Champion caliber team. Frankly I don't want anythign to do with anyone in the top five at this point. I think we can hang with anyone in the country but what I'm hoping for at this point is a run to the B12 title and a chance to wreck Texas's nation championship bid. The hopefully we can settle into the Fiesta bowl and close out the season with a strong win over a good but not great fellow top fiver. That is a better position then gett crushed in a title game. Face it, we don't match up well with Alabama or Florida niether does anyone esle in the B12. Just my opinion.
Anyways MNC are subjective, the B12 however is not. I want the crystal bowl now, the crystal football can come later.
