Husker Up: Week 2, 2009
Hey there, Husker fans. I understand why some of you might be having a bit of a week 2 let down as fans. You might not have the buzz you did for the opening game of the season. And, maybe you are looking ahead one week to the clash with Virginia Tech. Or maybe you are just a lazy fan who doesn't fully appreciate the glory and the spectacle of college football. (oh, the shame...) In any case - I'm here to help snap you out of it. It's time to HUSKER UP for the second week of the season.
Notable Quotable
I am sure you have heard this a few times already, but it is worth pointing out again. Here is Bo Pelini on last week's 49-3 WIN over Florida Atlantic.
“Overall, man to man, I thought we played soft at times,” Pelini. “We’ve got to get that fixed.”
Is that quote new? No. Pelini said it Tuesday. I'm trotting it out again today because of its sincerity.
God bless the coach that calls it like he sees it. Yes, the scoreboard matters. The point is to win the game. But, NU clearly did not play they way their coaches expect them to play (meaning physical), and so he just came right out and said it.
He's not trying t play head games. He didn't concoct that idea to motivate the team. He's just committed to an ideal, a process, and want his team to reflect that. That commitment and candor will likely lead to a much more physical NU performance tomorrow.
Speaking of Physical...
Seriously, would you just look at this guy?
That's just one picture of Suh, and it barely does him justice. He's a beast. A stud. A War Daddy. Last week, he was relentless to the football, running down many plays to the sideline and down fields. If NU is to be a more physical team Saturday, it will be up to him and his defensive line mates to set the tone. Get ready to holler "Suuuuuuh" in the stadium and your living rooms, Husker fans.
The AV Club Presents...Physical, Defined
If you want to know what physical play look like, just watch this hit courtesy of two of my all time favorite Huskers: Mike Rucker and Troy Dumas.
Oh, the humanity of the hi-low hit! I bet you can't watch that just once. You can't turn away, like watching a train wreck. Now...Husker fans, if NU gives Arkansas State's QB a few hits even in the neighborhood of this mess, then I think it might put a kink in their plans to spring an upset.
Day by Day...
Not sufficiently fired up for the game yet? Gee, who can I ask for help? Oh, I know... Grant Wistrom. This sound bite is like crack for Husker fans. We just can't play it enough.
Hit it, band
And now, the Pride of All Nebraska...
Imagine that NU just scored. The red balloons are in flight. You are passing out high fives to the folks sitting around you. You kicked over your pop and it is spilling at your feet but you don't care. There is no place like Nebraska.
Enjoy the game!

Entertaining article. It's fitting that Dumas, who is from Cheyenne puts a hurting on the WY QB. Going to have to record the PPV game with ArkState. Texas is playing in my backyard and I don't want their fans to outnumber Cowboy fans.
GBR!

Is being comfortable like being lazy? 'Cause, I'm comfortable with the squad, at the moment. Not just because the team's "soft," either.
I can freely call Nebraska a "good" team, now.
A nice, good, squad, is all I really want. That the program's expecatations and goals are so much more, only adds to my comfortableness.
For the first time in years, there's no unease over the competence of either side of the ball, or even individual positions and groupings. Players know what to do, they know how to do it and they can now be fully confident they've been prepared for the opportunity to reach their potential, individually and team wise.
Kickoff!
