“What do you think?”
We are in week three of spring ball and Bo has unleashed his fury. It came after Wednesday’s practice. The patented “what do you think?” I am thankful that I haven’t asked a question that Bo thought was stupid. And I am also thankful I am not in his son’s shoes after forgetting to clean my room after a lackluster practice.
Spring ball has brought around quite a few changes. Caputo to center. Washington to QB. Hickman to right guard. But one consistency has remained this spring and that is that intensity and effort must remain at the top level.
While media availability wasn’t allowed on Sunday, apparently the Huskers held a hardcore scrimmage that evening which players described as a near-game experience. With that comes the aches, pains, and tiredness the following few days. Apparently two days off on Monday and Tuesday weren’t enough because on Wednesday the players came out with a lack of focus and desire. And under Bo’s rules, that is a giant no-no.
I am still having a hard time determining what will happen this season. Certainly we need players to step up at the wide receiver position and of course we have an untested leader at quarterback. But regardless, we once again should see a no-quit attitude from the team. The players let up on Wednesday and there is no excuse for that, tired or not. Before last season, most Husker fans obviously wanted wins but more importantly in Year One we wanted to see a change in attitude and effort. Mission accomplished. In Year Two, is this simply enough? Or will that attitude and effort begin to equate to less mental mistakes and closer-to-perfect performances in each outing?
I’d expect the Huskers to come out in today’s practice with the right mindset and attitude to continue making steps forward. “What do you think?”

I think Nebraska media kinda like it. I think that when Pelini points his face at you, it makes up for any lack of attention you got, that week. You feel alive, again. Like when you walk into a possible "situation" on the street, late at night.
He flavors the atmosphere. He's unpredictable, except that, you know something's coming, some day, any day, any moment. As long as he doesn't throw things...
He hasn't screamed in a presser yet either, which really would be a little over the top, for Lincoln.
This is another reason why it's nice nobody in the Nebraska media pool isn't trying to be famous, by ripping the coach, or team. Unless the OWH has, which I never read. (Bloggers don't count.)
His ways can provoke a stepped up level of scrutiny, though. Subtle, then pointed.
Whether the media is desensitized, or just numbly immune, Pelini's style works just fine, since he's genuine. You can "wrap around" the brotha and he does seem to inspire the troops. An absolute must.
Does he grind on people, his subordinates, his intimates? Will he wear himself out?
Does it matter?

Renny,
I think that you are spot on with what was expected from the team last year...a change in hustle a change in effort and desire. I feel like the addition of Bo to the team just brings that naturally. I don't think that you will find a Bo team without it... Just like a Basketball club coached by Doc without it.
But now the key to winning games for both of them is the x's and o's side. and the recruited talent. I can't wait for this year it is going to be great.
