Recruit Roundup: Offense
Want to know what each of the major recruiting services are saying about the recently recruited Husker players or how many stars they have? Click on the links next to each name to see descriptions and/or video of everyone. We've also gone through all the information that can be found on the internet to bring you a general statement about each player. Today, we're going over the offense. Defense coming soon.
Antonio Bell » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Bell joined the Huskers at the semester. His video shows good leaping ability and some yards after the catch, but he seems to get knocked over with first contact. His frame looks like it can handle more weight, let's hope he bulks up.
Brandon Kinnie » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Ok, the dude looks huge. His videos makes him look like a linebacker playing wide receiver. He's built to play right now. As a JuCo guy, we'll probably see him on the field this season.
Brent Qvale » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » 6'7" 335lbs. What else can you say? Oh, how about he plays basketball and is a wrestler. So not just someone who's "fluffy" around the middle. Don't forget about the 4.0 GPA. Work on his technique will go a long way towards him playing ASAP.
C.J. Zimmerer » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » As a likely fullback, he'll need to bulk up just a bit, but otherwise he has the strength to do it. His high school video shows a guy rarely brought down by the first hit and the speed of an better than average running back. As a linebacker, he was always flying to the ball or waiting for the carrier in the hole.
Cody Green » Huskers.com - Video - LJS Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Green is the flagship of the 2009 recruiting class. He's one of the best players in the country. If you see him in action, it is clear why he's so highly touted. His arm is strong and accurate. It looks like he can hit a receiver in the hands from 30 yards out 99% of the time. But his quickness and decision making makes him ideally suited to run a zone read/option type of offense. Welcome to Nebraska Cody.
Dontrayevous Robinson » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Shifty, slippery, and with a great center of gravity, he's like a weeble - he may wobble, but he doesn't fall down. He's got a really good third gear that seems to get him to top speed as fast as most of the touted RB recruits I've seen this year. Pretty good size and strength, but quickness is his forte.
J.T. Kerr » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » In his video, he always seemed to be open, which begs the question: how does a defense lose a 6'4", 230 lbs. tight end running right through the middle of the field? No matter, he'll be valuable as a blocker as well as a consistent offensive contributor.
Jeremiah Sirles » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Watching Sirles run block is like watching the running of the bulls. Stay in his way and you're going to get gored. He's the kind of player that I think of when I talk about Bo finding guys to fit the scheme that need some technique polished, but are otherwise great. Sirles can be built into a great player.
Jesse Coffey » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Looks pretty solid on film, can handle pulls and stunts, but could be just a little quicker off the ball. He's a big guy, but will be another test for our coaches development ability.
Nick Ash » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Now I'm no offensive line expert, but 6'5" and 260 lbs makes you one of our smaller O line recruits? This will be a fun group to see develop into vicious unit. Ash looks like he's got the frame to hold more weight and he's always looking for the next person to hit - always a good sign in a football player.
Rex Burkhead » Huskers.com - Video - Rivals - Scout - ESPN » Seems to have a great football sense in terms of knowing where to be on the field and making the plays to get that extra yard or two that might make a difference. He's my kind of player - always headed straight for the endzone, never backwards and is serious about not being flashy. He's a good "get" for this staff as Burkhead should be able to make a difference in a couple years.

You guys are killin' me today. Normally, I can pop in here, get some good, insightful news, and get back to work. Today I 'had' to spend a bunch of time here. I have to get back to work.

Damn everyone talks about how great an athlete Cody Green is but why no talk about REX.. In this video he looks like a beast... The good thing for REX is he dosn't have the stigma of having to come in right away and play.. If this kid went through spring drills, it would be hard to not play him come next september somewhere... I know we have a good stable of running backs, but thats the kind of athlete you want on the field... For that matter I would like to see him as WR as well. Set him on the outside and give him a couple of Bubble screens, and we'll see how many DB's can actually tackle him!!

Rex is awesome. I think he's great. He's not getting talked about as much as many other RB's because he just gets the job done and that's it. No sizzle, no pop, just results. In other words, he typifies what I think Nebraska football should be all about.
