Cody Glenn suspended indefinitely

cody-glenn.jpg The Journal Star is reporting that Cody Glenn has been suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules.

The senior from Rusk, Texas was widely viewed as one of the leaders on defense. Glenn racked up 26 solo tackles and 25 assisted tackles this season. His departure will certainly leave a gap in a position where the Huskers already lack depth.

Sophomore Blake Lawrence is listed behind Glenn on the depth chart and will most likely see more playing time.

Glenn moved to linebacker this year after playing I-Back for the past three seasons.

Wow. What a loss for our defense. On the other hand, the move will pay dividends down the road. The players need to know there is no grey area in the team rules.

Good for Bo. As for Cody, I hope that there is nothing serious, and he can find his way back onto the team before bowl season.

qualuedtke Nov 11 08

It seems that Bo doesn't play favorites. And this is something that should get the whole teams attention. And, like Andy said, hope he can make it back. And, I hope Joe G. minds all the rules.

Walker Nov 11 08

Heard through the vine that he was suspended due to the fact that he failed a drug test. (weed)

This should be a wake up call. This team knows what it has to do. They'll be okay. Everyone can be replaced.

Dwayne Nov 11 08

Totally off the subject. Who represents the South in the conference title game if OU beats Texas Tech and there is only one loss on the record of Texas, OU, and TT and the end of the regular season?

Denly Nov 11 08

I believe it is the strength of schedule. Which favors Texas.

Brian Nov 11 08

It all depends on who is higher in the bcs. If Oklahoma wins, I would bet they play in the big12 game becasue i think a win over TTU would bump them ahead of texas.

Dywane Nov 11 08

I think the punishment is too harsh. This affects the entire team at a critical time in the team' schedule with major bowl implications. Why should the fans, teammates, and most importantly school revenue suffer for the mistake of one player. I am sure their are other punishments that could be used, that only impact Cody. Do not give him a blackshirt, play back up for a game.

Those players who worked hard do not deserve to be punished for Cody's mistake. They deserve every opportunity to win and go to a great bowl game.

Dixon was booted from the team, so apparently Bo's team rules are not having an affect. If Cody broke team rules most likely other are to despite the Dixon precedent.

Quiller Nov 11 08

Dywane: If the team rules state that suspension is the penalty for whatever rule Glenn broke, then the coaching staff had to follow through. Anything less than following the rules and consequences they set for the team would lead to other incidents as people thought it was okay to break the rules. This is even more important when it involves a star and fan favorite like Glenn.

Dywane Nov 11 08

Quiller:
I understand your point, and it is taken seriously. But what is the punishment for a non-star? The same as Cody? A second or third string back up does not see the playing time nor have the team's future ride on his play as a star palyer does. The punishment in words and deed appear the same but the reality is much differnet.

Cody and the team have their future affected by this punishment. A third stinger would have maybe 5 minutes of playing time taken away, and that would go unnoticed.

If Bo's punishments are meant to be a deterrent then the Dixon suspension would have stopped Cody form his recent violation.

I just think that each situation should be taken individually. This seems too black and white of a decision.

I respectfully disagree but do understand your point that leaders should step up and lead in all areas of life...set the example.

If he got suspended for drugs, that's unfortunate, but as a senior he should have known better. Plus with a chance to go to the next step (NFL) maybe it will be a wake up call for him. I hope the best for him and I hate the lose for the team and the fans. Good luck Cody, hope to see you on Sunday's.

I'm just hugely disappointed for the kid. To finally get to play a season as a starter, then to toss it... Wow. Hopefully he keeps his scholarship through the spring.
This, after Kevin Dixon in the summer.

So, along with Blake there's true walkon frosh Matt Holt. I havent seen anything about Thomas Grove, this year. Maybe he's redshirting to be a 3rd year soph, for next year. By no means, burn somebody's redshirt now. Though, you look at the roster at the frosh. Big list of LB's, just all walkons and scholarship guys redshirting is all.
Again, though. I feel bad for Cody. That's gotta make a kid bawl.
Another example, of youth being wasted on the young.

But, Blackshirts have finally been issued!
The team moves on.

Dwayne Nov 12 08

I'm not worried about it. Indefinately in my mind could mean for just this game and back to finish the last two. If what he did is based under the assumptions above, then it's probably justifiable. I think much of his punishment might just be the fact of not letting him know when he's back and that for me would be the worst. That is part of Bo Pelini and that in itself in my mind is a pretty good deterrant.

Sweet D Nov 12 08

Look at the photo! His lips is super dark. They were probably black as tar on Monday! Probably did not have time to take the cure. Celebration sucks!
Or could have been pissed that he did not get a Blackshirt. Whatever that means. Initial instincts are good, then over pursuits, and relying on SPEED to recover after his mistakes.
Well, being a good (not smart) kid as y'all claim he is, he will see the field again. Maybe!

Chris Nov 12 08

I think that if he violated the team rules then he faces the punishment. The one thing that Tom taught was that you do the right thing first! Rewards will pay for doing the right thing.
Bo isn't the one that is punishing all players that worked hard to get to this point, Cody is. I hope that it is nothing more than missing a meeting or training, as I would love to see him move into the next step. But he has to face the punishment to correct the wrong that he did to the team.

Bill in Iowa Nov 12 08

Undisciplined off the field = undisciplined on the field.

Do we want players with discipline or not?

It's the right call, for the team, and for the young man. I hope Cody keeps it together and we see him back, soon.

gridironguruss Nov 14 08

i agree with Chris this is exactly how it should happen and now the TEAM should step up and RESPECT their coach. Decision was correct this is Nebraska Not Miami

Does anyone know the latest on Cody Glenn...
It seems weird not to know anything. What did he do? Is he coming back? When?
