The Weekly Buzz
After seeing what the top teams in the league did to the bottom half last week, we'll start to see where the rest of them are divvied up. Is Oklahoma better than Texas? Is Missouri capable of slowing down the powerhouse offense of Oklahoma State? Which teams are moving up and which ones are sliding down? Don't agree with my assessments? Let me know.
Iowa State @ Baylor » At home, Iowa State took a ranked Kansas team to the wire, but were held down on their last drive attempt. On the road this year, they didn't hold up against Iowa and lost a shootout to UNLV. Baylor doesn't turn the ball over very much, and they have a pretty consistent rushing attack because of the legs of their quarterback, Robert Griffin. Baylor and Iowa State are both teams looking to be on the upswing, but where are they relative to each other? Both have mobile dangerous quarterbacks. Both are coming off losses to ranked opponents. I give the edge to the home team, da Bears, 30-28.
Colorado @ Kansas » Kansas at home will be looking to prove to people that last week's first half against Iowa State was a fluke. Colorado may not be the best team to try it on. The Buffs should contend for a few quarters, maybe even make it a game past the third, but Colorado's offense won't be able to overcome a solid Jayhawk team, unless their run stoppers come out in full force. Colorado will be looking to avoid the same position as Nebraska this week, the potential for three losses in a row. Kansas should win 38-24.
Kansas State @ Texas A&M » Which of these two teams is going to join the cellar first? The Wildcat fans are quickly becoming discontent with Ron Prince and the anemic defense. But if any fans have reason to complain, it's Aggie fans. Disappointing losses, bad turnovers, close wins against mediocre teams, the worst offense in the Big 12, and the worst scoring defense in the Big 12 cause me to think that Mike Sherman was a bad, bad choice for a college football head coach. They are leading the league in pass defense, because nobody has to throw against them to win a game. Kansas State should give Prince the rest of this year and next year with new assistants before getting too unruly, but Sherman shouldn't be given much time. KSU should run away with this one 40-20.
Oklahoma State @ Missouri » This should be the second best game to watch this week, and would be considered a trap game for the Tigers if they weren't at home. The Cowboys are the second best scoring offense in the Big 12 behind Missouri. The Tiger's 95 rush yards/game allowed will be tested against OSU's 315 rush yards/game average. If Mizzou can jump ahead early, it could force the Cowboys to get pass-happy, limiting their offense. However, I think we could easily see scores on every drive except a couple in this game. Tigers on top, 55-45
Nebraska @ Texas Tech » Ok, I'm not letting my Husker fandom get in the way of predicting this score. What a week to start playing on the road. I don't see a happy bounce back from the Missouri game and the Red Raiders are just as unstoppable when it comes to the pass offense, if not, more so. Let's hope for a “bend, don't breakâ€? kind of game because TT could put 500 passing yards on us easily. 48-32 in favor of Tech and that's just playing the averages right there. Darn you, Huskers for making me predict that you will lose for the first time I can remember.
Texas vs. Oklahoma » Immovable force vs. unstoppable mass comes to mind when I think about the Red River Rivalry this year. If you take the points for Texas and average them with the points Oklahoma has allowed, you get 30.5. If you take the points for Oklahoma and average them with the points Texas has allowed, you get 30.5. Colt McCoy is awesome. Sam Bradford is awesome. Both defenses are tops in the league. If there is a weakness in any of these teams, Texas has it in their passing defense. However, that could be because teams have to air it out since they know they'll get nothing on the ground. Oklahoma's passing attack is so strong, though, that I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. I still think the national championship is the Sooner's to lose this year. Longhorns get knocked back 40-30.

I'll say: Texas Tech- 64
Nebraska - 30
Oklahoma - 32
Texas - 24
Our day with TEXAS TECH is coming also.
Remember, it's NEVER too early to HATE TEXAS!

Not too bad for predictions, Tom! I guess statistical analysis means something after all. Unfortunately, you picked the wrong week to doubt the Huskers -- although they did lose of course.
You nailed 2: KU and KState
Got 2 more right, but close/blowout wrong: Baylor, TTech
Missed 2: Texas, OSU
