Blogpoll Ballot - Week 9

Here again we present the Big Red Network ballot for the college football top 25 poll at M Go Blog. Avoiding upsets seems to be the greatest trick in the book. That said, I find myself rooting against teams like Utah, Boise State, Ball State, and Tulsa.

Texas remains at number one after its showdown with Oklahoma State. Texas Tech moves to number four entering their showdown with the Longhorns in Lubbock. Oklahoma looks about as good as any eleventh ranked team could and the Cowboys aren’t far behind. The Big East, by contrast to the Big 12 has only a single ranked team and that’s at #24. Expect that to change in the coming weeks as these two loss teams begin to climb the rankings.

Steve,

I appreciated what you were doing early in the year, but your ballot has lost all credibility, see #5-8. I know they are undefeated but put any of them up against 9-14 and they would be lucky to win 1 in 5.

I am all for a playoff system to let #5-8 into the game but...........

Austin,

I read you but understand what I'm going for. This is not handicapping. The fact is, I'd take USC over any other ranked team straight up and would over the last two or three years. But when they take a couple games off and lose twice in a season, I think they don't deserve to be national champion contenders ahead of less-talented teams that continue to give winning efforts week after week. How many Appalachian State's or Boise State's do we have to see upsetting BCS-bowl teams to realize that there's never been a smaller difference between good and bad, have and have-not?

All it takes is one loss to show what kind of teams can beat these little programs. But until they take that first loss, they get the benefit of the doubt from me. Maybe I let Boise State have too big an impact on me, but I thought that OU team they beat was probably good enough to be playing for a national championship (that Oregon loss was complete BS). Maybe Hawaii's beatdown should have made me go back to being prejudice against the little guys and I should just follow the herd on the rankings.

But that's the thing about standing on principle. Sometimes, you have to stand alone...
