HUSKER UP: New Mexico State
It's Friday afternoon. You've worked hard all week. You've been such a good boy (or girl), dutifully making your widgets and selling your cams. Now, don't you want some football? Sure you do. You want to bust out of your beige, florescent-lit cubicle and watch some pigskin. If the anticipation wasn't bad enough already, I'm hear to offer you a little more incentive to watch the Huskers take on New Mexico State. Friends and neighbors, it's time to Husker Up!
Trash Talk, Really?
So, the Aggies talked a little trash this week. Is it about NU's lack of a running attack? Nope. Inconsistent secondary? Guess again.
It was about Nebraska's wide receivers. Specifically New Mexico State cornerback Davon House this:
"We believe our receivers are 10 times better than their receivers."
Uh, okay. Wide receiver is one area where the Huskers have actually exceeded expectations, significantly. So, not only did you give NU another reason to play hard this week, you look like an idiot doing it. Nice. I hope Nate Swift and company torch those guys. What's the only other thing I want to see more…?
I Want to See Physical Play!
I don't know about you, but it is only week three and I'm tired of this dink and dunk offense already. It's going to be a long year of dealing with 5-yard passes and read option runs. It's video game football. The only solution, in my opinion, is some huge hits. A safety knocking a wide receiver flat for going across the middle, or a defensive end blasting a quarterback coming around the end of the line of scrimmage - that's the cure.
I can trust that the players are getting coached for just that kind of thing. I know the defensive coaches are all about it. But read what some offensive coaches have said about physical play.
"It's the will. It's the will to reach inside an opponent's heart and pull his heart right out of him. That's the kind of stuff you've got to have, and to do that, you've got to be willing to push yourself through exhaustion. You've got to face up to it and hit it square in the mouth."
God bless Ron Brown, the Christian bad ass. He just said we need the will to pull an opponent's heart out.
Consider this quote by Tim Beck excerpted from an Lincoln Journal-Star article.
Watch Niles Paul, he told them.He hit play and the crowd went “oooooh as sophomore Husker wide receiver nailed a Western Michigan defender on a crack-back block, opening a path for Marlon Lucky to score Nebraska’s first touchdown last Saturday.
“Yeah, that’s the kind of football we’re teaching our guys, Beck said.
Hell yeah.
AV Club Presents - The 2008 Tunnel Walk
At BRN, we realize that many of our readers live outside the state of Nebraska. Many of you won't likely be able to take in a game in person this year. So, through the magic of the Internet, I'm happy to show you the 2008 NU Tunnel Walk. It's just like being at the game… if you dress in your game day gear, grab a runza or a Fairbury hotdog and install bleachers in your living room. What? I'm the only person who does that?
My favorite parts are the nostalgic images of Devaney, Frazier and others. And having it look as though Bo Pelini is cheering on those actions is a nice touch. Still, I could use some more images of real people, rather than so much virtual simulation. Still, it's good stuff!
Cue the Band
Nebraska fans might be great at cheering. But I doubt that too many of them are great singers. So, let the band do the heavy lifting on the music, okay? Maybe just clap along…

Since the 'B0' t shirts have been a marketing bonanza, I think it is time for BRN to cash in on the Reverend Ron. Something like "Our preacher can kick your preacher's ass!".
Just give me 1% of gross.

Can you keep a link to this on your Home Page? My Mizzou co-workers cringe at the sound!
