The Weekly Buzz
The buzz this week is all about Dixon getting the boot, Helu stealing some spotlight, and Nebraska being a team under the microscope this year.
» This week's top story is Kevin Dixon being kicked off the team for his bad behavior. Both the Lincoln Journal Star and the Big Red Network looked at the bright side of what happens when a great player gets the ax. Someone will now have an opportunity to step up and gain that necessary experience for the years ahead. While it would have been great to see him in the regular rotation, his loss will be one young player's gain. Out of all this is the impressive manner in which Bo Pelini has handled himself and the strict ways he has dealt with his players breaking the rules.
» I love that Roy Helu Jr. is getting the attention he deserves. SI suggests that the carries might be split with Marlon Lucky, and LJS believes we'll see similar styles from both of them. I see them being used to confuse and intimidate defenses all day long. Don't be surprised to see them used in completely different situations, or both in on the same play doing different things. Lucky's still the number one guy, but Helu is a threat not to be ignored. Good move on Pelini's part listing them as co-number ones. When you've got depth and skill at a position, flaunt it at your opponents as often and as loud as you can.
» Bo Pelini has received quite a bit of press from local and national resources chronicling his unique ability to motivate and inspire both players and staff. LJS has used words like strive or perfection. The national sources like USAToday have described the revival as a "back to basics" approach. The Kansas City Star mentioned his focus on the "give and take" of forcing turnovers. The weekly buzz is all about finding out what people are saying about the Huskers this week. It's not just Nebraska that is fascinated with the turn of events that have happened over the past year. Don't be surprised to see wins and loses carefully analyzed until the season is over.
