Here are two names that still make me cringe: Seneca Wallace & Troy Davis. They may not qualify as true Husker Killers, but they always got my attention. When I looked at the schedule and those guys were on the roster it always made me nervous.

Um, how about Callahan? ; )

Is it too mean-spirited to nominate players who were on our team? If not, I nominate Erwin Sweeney. More potential INTs hit that guy in the back of the head...
I also nominate Iowa State's Lane Danielson. Slow white guy absolutely lit us up in Solich's road loss to ISU.
I also nominate Bobby Purify of CU. Husker killer.

You had to go there didn't you Saunders? :)

In my young fanhood career the guy who stands out the most to me is Brad Smith.

    David Mar 12 08

Charlie Ward comes to mind. But how did Jamelle Holieway miss the cut?

I don't think that Brad Smith qualifies for this format. The theme seems to be players that killed the Good Husker teams. Since we didn't have a Top 10 team, he probably should have beat us. I saw the 06 game in Columbia. MU could have hung a 76 on us that day, but I think they were getting tired. Smith was good enough to make the list, he just didn't have a quality opponent. IMHO

    Happy Humpday to all!

Oooh.... oohhh.... I know, I know... The Dark Lord, Steve Pederson!

I was thinking William Perry and Bernie Kozar types. But maybe you were looking at guys we faced more than for one season and most you mentioned where in conference.

When I think of heartbreaking losses more than my fair share come from the State of OK and FL.

Ok now onto the national championship run of 2008. It is never too early dream.

Chris Brown? For one game, anyway.

    DT Mar 12 08

+1 to David for the Jamelle Holieway...sure, Jackson had the big, back-breaking plays, but those were only after the Blackshirts had been lulled to sleep after chasing Holieway around.

Along AustinHusker's Bernie Kosar vein (one game wonders)...Peter Tom Willis (aka: the guy with three first names) absolutely shredded a pretty decent NU defense (Mike Croel, Kenny Walker, Pat Tyrance, Bruce Pickens, Reggie Cooper, Jeff Mills...to name a few) at the end of the '89 season.

    bnahusker Mar 12 08

    I can't help but wonder...............

If forums like this were around in 1975, would Dr. Tom have been suggested for this list? "We" were pretty hard on him for a while.

    Just curious.............

No one has mentioned the greatest Big 6, Big 8 or Big 12 running back in history!!!!!!

One game example: 34 att., 189 yds, (4th most in NU history at the time), all in a loss 42-63, BTW he won the Heisman Trophy that year.

    Barry Sanders!!!!!!!!

    cvldfg Mar 12 08

    He had 4TD's as well.

    The Count Mar 13 08

    James Wilder.

    NE2WA Mar 13 08

Jamelle Holloway was a killer. Remember the whole "keys to the house" game?

Another to consider was William "The Refrigerator" Perry, who ate us up in the Orange Bowl for what gave Clemson the national championship instead of the Huskers.

    OU7times Mar 13 08

Ah yes, th keys to the house game. Wasn't that the game where Broderick Thomas and Steve Taylor were at the press conference saying that OU couldn't use the fact that Jamelle and Lydell Carr (knee blow outs) were out of the game as to why the Huskers would win? Ooooooooppps!

    Greg Morrow Mar 13 08

Phil Bradley, JC Watts, Darian Hagan, Brad Smith, Steve Davis, Thomas Lott. Except for Bradley, all beat the Corn more than once.
Sure, they were part of good to great teams, but couldn't you also refer to Tommie as a Colorado killa? Or, Okie killa? The Gator killa of all Gator killas. A bad enough whuppin' for a generation.

As Tom might say, these were difference making athletes (speed at QB) tipping it to their side, when the rest of the rosters were usually close to equal.
Shoot, who was Iowa st's qb for '76 and '77?

    cwm Mar 23 08

    Barry Switzer.

    Chad Mar 25 08

The only Husker killer that comes to my mind is Chris Brown from Colorado. He had 6 touchdowns on only 24 attempts. It was a sad day for the Blackshirts. Oh.....and I better give a shoutout to Darren!

There are a lot of bad memories associated with these names. Does anyone remember the day Reggie Roby and his punting helped keep Nebraska backed up all day with booming punts that pinned us deep in a 10-7 loss. Iowa also had a LB named Andre Tippett who completely dominated that day, Tippett is now in the NFL HOF from his years with the Patriots.
