Husker Killers: Dexter Green

by

Question: When was the last time Iowa State beat Nebraska in two consecutive seasons?
Answer: 1976-1977

Question: Which Cyclone player was the difference in those games?
Answer: Dexter Green

In 1976, the ninth-ranked Huskers committed eight fumbles and threw an interception in Ames, but it was the Cyclone offense that was the difference. ISU churned out 321 rushing yards behind Dexter Green who scored two touchdowns in the 37-28 upset.

A year later, when the game was played in Lincoln and the Huskers were again ranked ninth and Iowa State was again unranked. ISU converted third downs time and again behind screens and draw plays to Green. His nineteen-yard touchdown run was the difference in a 24-21 Cyclone victory as Iowa State rushed for 294 yards, of which Green had 139.

Green was an all Big-8 back and held the Cyclone rushing records until Troy and Darren Davis came along. While his name may no longer be familiar to Husker fans, he goes down as one of the all-time Husker Killers.
