"Bad News Season" Begins Today
Very seldom does much good news come out during the football off season. Usually it is just reports about injuries and suspensions. Here at BRN, Steve Hanway dubbed the summer off season "Bad News Season." Well, I suppose that moniker can also be applied to February and March, as NU released news that cornerback Anthony Blue will miss spring ball with an injured knee.
The Lincoln Journal star is reporting that Blue suffered torn knee ligaments during conditioning drills and will definitely miss spring practice.
Blue is a favorite here at BRN. He flashed signs of ability late last season. And, is widely considered one of the leading candidates for playing time at cornerback this fall. His losing an important developmental practice period really hurts.
The only real upside here is that he may be able to get rehabbed in time for the start of Fall practice. Also, it may create opportunities for some of NU's other young defensive backs to get repetitions this spring. Assuming (and that's never a good thing to do...) that Blue can come back healthy, their depth may be enhanced some by getting other players in the mix.
Either way, I'm hoping for a swift and full recovery for Blue.

Wasn't Blue in the movie Old School? Or was that someone else?

"You're my boy Blue!"

Big loss. I thought that Blue played very well last year. Hope that he can make a full recovery and be ready by fall. Covered well, good speed, and tackled well in space. I was looking at him as a source of stability coming into the spring and beyond.

You pulled a Will Ferrell clip that fast? I'm not sure if I should be impressed, or disgusted!
Bounce back Blue! We want you, and need you.

Lord, ain't that the truth. The less we hear about Husker football the better for a while.

Yeah, that's a tough break. He does still have that redshirt available, to get fully strengthened. Which, is what I'd rather he and the staff choose. He may not want to, with the prospect of getting left behind.
What's nice though, is the number of young DB's on the roster and incoming. I can't remember this many good prospects on scholarship, in the last 10 years. Apart from losing too much in '07, Callahan did settle down with the JC recruiting, in his last two classes. So, at least frosh and sophs will out number the JC DB's, for the first time in a while.
Murillo would seem to be the guy at one corner and between Anthony Blue, Shawn Sullivan and the Prince, there could be some "playas" at the spot.
