Aggie Fans are Bizarre

aggie yell leaders

It is no secret that the Aggies have some interesting traditions. From the collie graveyard to the pseudo-military caste system that is enforced among students, you can't spell crazy without A&M. If you needed more proof, witness this video put together by a gentleman who is running for Junior Yell Leader.

Oh, there's more. Lots more.

Look out though. He has competition.

It looks like it's going to be a tight race for Junior Yell Leader this year. Let's hope they keep their campaigns focused on the important issues like, how tight should they roll the sleeves on their janitor outfits and if Lassie Reveille should be pure bred or a mutt.

We mock what we don't understand.

Hat tip to EDSBS.

Yea Jason, they should have enough sense to wear foam cornheads and 'lift' a shoe during the game (???). And don't forget that god awful concoction called Runza...YUK! What in the world could those Aggies be thinking? Yuk yuk.

Jason Mar 26 08

I'll take my lumps on the corn head. But do not speak ill of the Runza. You've been warned.

Good God man, don't anger him. I despise the taste of Runzas but still eat them in the name of tradition.

I'll be in Lincoln this weekend to see my baby neices. While family is very important, no trip home is complete without a Cheese Runza, Tastee's witha pail of Onion Chips, and a stop at Val's. Do NOT disrespect the Food of the Realm!

Go Big Red!

OK, well I have to say that I never have eaten a cheese Runza so I'll give it a try next time I'm in Lawrence visiting my daughter. Hopefully she will be KU2times by then. Besides, how could you screw up a cheese Runza?

OU7times............

Where in OK are you? The next time my wife makes a batch of homemade Runzas, I'll bring you a couple. (They are a royal pain, so I only get them once a year.) If you are in Tulsa, we can meet at The Silver Flame! More good food. I can be there in 3 hours.

Thanks for the offer, buddy. I live in Wichita, KS and don't doubt that your wife makes a fine Runza knockoff (or maybe Runza is a knockoff of your wife's version!).I just didn't acquire the taste of the commercial version, I guess. I appreciate it, bnahusker. BTW, would you know why NU's spring game is so much later than say, OU's? Weather maybe?? GO BIG RED!

darren Mar 27 08

OU7 - yep, weather is a significant factor in the timing of spring games. The southern schools tend to start sooner I've been to many in NE where it was pretty cold. I'm glad it's mid-April now.

RE: Runza - Growing up, it seemed everybody's mother made runzas. There is so much German ancestry in the state. School cafeterias serve them, too. Basically, NE kids are raised on them.

At the fast food franchise, they have created a huge number of varients (swiss cheese and mushroom, Italian, etc) so they can fit most tastes. Personally, I'm a cheese runza guy. But, I prefer the burgers there...and the onion rings.

I have no idea where they come up with the schedule. Weather sounds good to me. Mizzou has their spring game the same day as NU, and I hear that it will be televised on the No Fun League (NFL) Channel.

PS My wife is not NEARLY old enough to have had the Runza stolen from her!

Nebraska fans have been treated with nothing but respect when down at A&M. Not sure why BRN is quoting the Burnt Orange Nation, unless Nebraska considers UT their daddy now... but whatever. And yes Aggies are certainly not the same as Huskers.. but A&M and Nebraska share a common respect for things such as the military (which was demostrated at the combo Nebraska/A&M alumni flyover at Kyle) and treating other teams with respect. Hey .. anything can be considered bizarre.. even wearing cornhead hats.. carry on.

Please note that this site has no malice. Mostly serious Husker Football with a dash of the "Lighter Side". Also note the last line of the post......."We mock what we don't understand". Just a bit of fun between seasons.
Have a great year!

Go Big Red!

I didn't actually watch the vids Jason offered, but from a decidedly outsider's view, ATM embodies what a collegial atmosphere is about. What most programs aspire to. I'm always entertained with what I see from the TV's vantage point, especially, when events are shown before the game and after a TD. The "high n tight" yell leaders are just as intergral to football tradition and the "Song Girls" are... If not as compelling.

Now, is the coaching staff going to allow Stephen McGee to play his game? Or, at least make the new offense "friendly" for him?
It's the least they could do for their senior quarterback, who's had a fine career heretofore.
