Two Receivers to Visit Over Final Recruiting Weekend

The Huskers final recruiting weekend appears likely to include two visitors (though the status of these things can change hourly). Nebraska will host two three-star wide receivers in Louisiana’s Khiry Cooper and Miami’s Kendal Thompkins.

Cooper is said to be down to Arkansas or Nebraska. Scout.com also indicates that he received offers from Florida and LSU. Also, still uncommitted in Louisiana are safety P.J. Smith (also looking at Arkansas) and receiver LaRon Byrd (who seems likely to head to Auburn or Miami).

Thompkins is listed as a soft verbal to Miami, but his late visit would indicate he may have some doubts about remaining in his hometown. The smallish Thompkins is listed at 5’11 and 160 lbs but must have some speed to hold an offer from the Hurricanes.

The commitment of cornerback Alfonzo Dennard underscores how much of the recruiting process can fly under the radar of sites like Rivals.com and Scout.com. So it wouldn’t seem terribly unlikely that another visitor or commit or two could spring up in the next six days that’s completely unfamiliar to Husker fans that closely follow recruiting.

Getting one or two of these guys would be perfect exclamation point on a solid recruiting class that fills needs in positions where depth could become an issue. I would like to think Khiry is a lock, but you never know.

There's actually a third visitor in Lincoln. Three-star cornerback Ter'Ran Benton who is a soft verbal to Iowa State. He also had offers from Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri.
