Signing Day
National letter of intent signing day has arrived and with it, there’s always some drama. Much of it can be unexpected (e.g. which verbally committed players bolt at the last minute or can be poached at the last minute) but then there are also some prospects who wait until signing day to announce where they’ll head to school.
Still at large are running back Justin Rogers of Alabama and his high school teammate safety Mason Wald. Wald is reportedly “highly interested” in Nebraska while Rogers hadn’t listed Nebraska ahead of schools like Kentucky that he’d visited more recently. Miami wide receiver Kendall Thompkins is a soft verbal to Miami. Ohio wideout Kenny Stafford is also still uncommitted.
Beyond those four, there are still a number of players originally pursued by Callahan’s staff that could come back into play, including junior college players. And of course players that liked Nebraska but committed elsewhere could have a last minute change of heart.
The one big name that stands out in the Big 12 today is one that Nebraska hasn’t pursued. California running back Darrell Scott who was going to choose between Colorado and Texas (with slim hopes perhaps for UCLA). Scott is listed by Rivals as the top running back prospect in the country. Go Bruins.
