Recruiting Roundup: Virginia Tech
The Hokies brought in a class somewhat like Nebraska’s. It’s big, but not particularly beefy (i.e. not a ton of linemen). They’ve got some four-star players in defensive end Leon Mackey, running back Ryan Williams, guard Vinston Painter, receiver D.J. Coles, linebackers Quillie Odom and Bruce Taylor, and “athlete” Dyrell Roberts. There are a couple of two-star recruits, but it’s mostly solid prospects.
Since the Hokies are on the schedule for 2008 and 2009, it’s the non-linemen that the Huskers are most likely to face anyway and Virginia Tech will have plenty of new options there as well as a pretty good returning roster. Williams might be the one most likely to see time against Nebraska, but even then most likely in 2009.
Tech continues to be among the better recruiting programs in the ACC. Not top glamour classes, but lots of solid athletes, particularly on defense.
