Big 12 Recruiting Roundup: Oklahoma
The Sooners were the class of the league in recruiting just as they have been on the field. Only five of their 21 recruits did not get at least a four-star rating from Rivals.com or Scout.com. They had four five-star players including running backs Jermie Calhoun and Justin Johnson, offensive lineman Stephen Good, and defensive end R.J. Washington.
If there’s any knock on this class it’s that OU dipped into the junior college ranks to grab a pair of linebackers and a safety. They also still appear a bit thin at tight end, and will have to be aggressive to manage the losses of five senior offensive linemen who will graduate this season.
Unlike a year ago, the Sooners didn’t wait until the last minute to fill up the class. Only one player made his commitment in the final week. They already have a commitment at linebacker for 2009 as well.
In virtually all areas the Sooners seem to continue to hum along. They are where every Big 12 program wants to be. Whether it’s the trophy case or the recruiting trail, the Sooners are on top – for now.
