Big 12 Recruiting Roundup: Colorado

If the recruiting rankings are any indication of what the future holds, the Buffaloes might be getting good enough for Husker fans to start hating again (did we ever stop?). Arguably the biggest prize by any Big 12 school on signing day went to CU. Running back Darrell Scott of California, rated as the top running back prospect in the country chose to go to Boulder. Another five-star prospect headed to Colorado is Utah linebacker Lynn Katoa.

The Buffs also nabbed their share of four-star prospects. Husker fans will surely remember offensive lineman Bryce Givens and junior college linebacker Shaun Mohler who had committed to Bill Callahan (three-star linebacker Doug Rippy was also grabbed by CU). They also secured another four-star linebacker, offensive lineman, and running back. When it comes to running the ball and stopping the run, CU appears to have added some quality personnel.

The weakness of the class would seem to be the depth. The Buffs only landed 21 commitments when they seemingly had capacity for at least a few more. And a few of those were of the late two-star variety (i.e. scholarships accepted on signing day to kids near the bottom of their list). Colorado could surely have used more help on the defensive line (remember when they briefly stole defensive end Josh Williams from Nebraska?) and they brought in only one wide receiver to replace the four seniors that they lost to graduation.

The ratings of the class vary a fair amount along those lines. Rivals ranks CU’s class at #15 and ahead of Nebraska’s on star power and Scout.com downgrades it to #27 behind Nebraska’s for its lack of depth. Seeing as how the Huskers and Buffs face off late in the season, depth could be critical when the two teams meet. But however you choose to evaluate it, they seem to have brought in the best class of any division opponent. And that means they could again truly became worthy of status as the main division rival. And Thanksgiving weekend may get a lot more interesting.

So, "Opie's" third recruiting class compares with Pelini's first, coming off the disastrous 5-7 season long flagellation and surreal "coup de grace" in Boulder. Whatever....

Actually, I'll have to admit I like Hawkins (I've always like their Coaches, including "Skippy"). I even like the occasional "discussion" with Buffy fans who think they want to represent, on another blog.

Buffalo, buffalo wherefore fart thou, oh buffalo?

After the pounding last year from Colorado, NU, better just hope Scott only plays two years! Nebraska is washed up, GOOD RECUITS want to live some where NICE( like SoCAL, and Boulder), THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANY OUT OF STATE kids to live in NEBRASKA(unless they like CORN, HEAT, And HICKS)! So untiill the youth start wearing tight cowboy pants, and listing to Country, GOOD LUCK KEEPING UP WITH USC, and CU.

Thanks for that valuable contribution Eric.
