Offensive Tackle Commits as Another Decommits
Offensive tackle Dan Hoch decommitted from Nebraska for Missouri. Within a day of that announcement, it was announced that the Huskers landed a commitment from offensive tackle David Grant of Texas.
On the one hand, Husker fans might be disappointed since Hoch was ranked higher than Grant. On the other hand, if that's because Hoch is an inch taller and 5 pounds heavier, so what? According to Scout.com Grant had offers from Oklahoma and Texas Tech while Hoch's offers seemed to come from Big 12 North schools. With that in mind, does it really matter which one comes to Lincoln?
The more important thing is that the Huskers don't lose an offensive lineman from their class. The Huskers spent about 4 years in offensive line hell (2002-2005). Now that they've dug themselves out of that hole, you'd really hate to see them come up short in recruiting offensive linemen, only to plunge back into the abyss.
In some sense this might be seen as good news. Better Hoch leaves now than on signing day. And any kid committing this late in the game is probably among the least likely to defect. So by swapping out offensive linemen, the Huskers might have improved their chances of getting their man - even if it's a different man.

Do you know why Oklahoma State rescinded their offer back in September?

The only sting I still feel over Hoch's departure is that he leaves to play for a team that NU has to play every year.
If he had left to go outside the division, or better yet outside the conference, it wouldn't bother me very much. But Missouri...that's a problem.
That said, Grant is a good "get". His hailing from Texas also gives me continued hope for more success in the Lone Star state.

This certainly doesn't hurt as bad, since we found a big Texas lineman to replace him. There is no doubt the transition has hurt this year in terms of building relationships with these young men and its painful to watch these recruits slip from our grasp. I marvel at these young kids like Dan, who can obviously watch TV (and Pelini coach a championship Defense) and read the internet, yet don't understand that very exciting things are going to be happening at Nebraska. If indeed, he wants to play on a championship team in his Junior and Senior year...I think he is going to be disapointed. I just hope Mizzou, Colorado, and K-State enjoy the best recruiting classes they have had in a long long time...because next year they won't be getting the crumbs that fall from the Big Red Machine's table!
