Blogpoll Ballot – Final

Here again we present the Big Red Network ballot for the college football top 25 poll at M Go Blog. Though I wasn't able to enter it, so maybe they are forgoing a final ballot or else just don't want our vote.

Looking at these final records confirms what a year of mass mediocrity this was. Your national champion lost twice and you can’t come up with more than 15 teams in Division I-A that didn’t lose at least four games. If that’s not parity, I don’t know what is. Now that we’ve had some meaningful crossover games, it gets easier to slot these teams and it’s more justifiable to deviate from simply sorting teams with the same record. Still, I give more credit to teams like Hawaii and BYU than most.

1. LSU
2. Georgia
3. Southern Cal
4. Ohio State
5. West Virginia
6. Oklahoma
7. Missouri
8. Kansas
9. Virginia Tech
10. Hawaii
11. BYU
12. Texas
13. Boston College
14. Cincinnati
15. Arizona State
16. Texas Tech
17. Oregon
18. Michigan
19. Auburn
20. Florida
21. Tennessee
22. Clemson
23. Illinois
24. Oregon State
25. South Florida

How can you possibly have Ohio State ranked ahead of Missouri and Kansas?

And why a three-loss Oklahoma team at #6?

I'll handle this one guys. Three dates answer the Oklahoma question:

October 13, 2007: The day that Oklahoma beat Missouri.
November 24, 2007: The day that Missouri beat Kansas.
December 1, 2007: The day that Oklahoma beat Missouri AGAIN and badly.

As for the Ohio state question, I would say that Mizzou and Ohio State should be tied except for the fact that the Buckeyes were playing for the National Title and Mizzou was not even playing in a BCS game. Whether that is fair or not is an exercise left up to the reader.

Thanks for the assist doombob. Yeah, I basically don't give the Tigers a lot of credit for beating Arkansas (in head coaching limbo) nor ding OSU for losing to LSU. If the opponents were switched would things have played out any differently? Then you'd have a one-loss Ohio State and a three-loss Missouri.

The other piece is OU. With OU beating Missouri twice, you have to put OU ahead of Missouri and with Missouri's late season win on a neutral field against Kansas, you have to put the Tigers ahead of the Jayhawks. And after that pitiful performance by the Sooners against the Mountaineers (also in coaching limbo), I couldn't put them ahead of Ohio State.

Hawaii? You guys have to drop them out of the top 10. Somewhere between 18-25 sure, but 10 is a little silly. Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn and Oregon all deserve to be ahead of Hawaii.

Except for Texas, those teams all lost 4 games. Hawaii lost one game to a team that most regard as the second-best in the country. I grant you that Hawaii played a weak schedule, but I won't hang 2-3 losses on them for it.

WVU was the only team to win with an "interim" coach this bowl season. I didn't really consider them in limbo considering the "interim" coach was rumored to be signed to a multi year contract with the Mountaineers the next week. Some were happy to see Rich Rodriguez go. I actually think that they told the players some time before the game that they would be playing for their permanent coach.
