Big 12 State of the Union: Iowa State
The Cyclones made strides in 2007…just kidding. Actually Iowa State went from 4-8 in 2006 to 3-9 in 2007 under first year head coach Gene Chizik. The over-under might be 4-8 for next year too.
I gave Gene Chizik a pass on recruiting last year since he was new and to be fair there’s still some time left before signing day. Still, with most of their 2008 class assembled, they sit at the bottom of the Big 12 recruiting rankings by Rivals.com.
They also aren’t exactly stockpiled with talent on their current roster. In addition, they just lost a veteran quarterback and standout receiver along with some good linebackers. Until further notice, Iowa State is an automatic win for just about everyone in the conference but Baylor. And the Cyclones have to play that game in Waco next year.
Where’s the hope? Where’s the love? Beats me. This team looks like a bigger train wreck going into next season than they did last season. Seriously, ISU fans, can you find some reasons to believe? What are they?

To me, allowing Dan McCarney to "resign" was unfortunate, misguided, shortsighted. Just don't get it. He didn't have the fundraising charisma? Was it the '06 loss to Nebraska, at Ames? I mean, I know that made it two losses in a row to Nebraska, (who wouldn't fire a coach after that).
Iowa St "gets what they get" by letting a decent program builder like McCarney go, just like "we" did with Solich. Granted, an uneven if not dissimilar comparison.
Honestly though, I felt the same way when Missouri fired Larry Smith, so there you go.

Boy, I am not looking forward to going to work tomorrow because I have to tell everybody I got totally "F'd up" by Greggy "The Bone" Morrow. Can you imagine how imbarrassed I'll be??

OU7,
I realize Iowa State isn't exactly the most fascinating team in the conference, but I didn't see you or Oklahoma come up once in Greg's comment. Are you going to seek to highjack every discussion to pester Greg? Seriously, can't you think of a better way to spend your time?

Fair enough, Steve. Just having a little fun.

If I was an Iowa State fan, I would be very disappointed. Like you said, not much to get excited about. At least they have basketball.

You're right. If they win 5, I'll be surprised.
