NU Fans Nearly Achieve Bogasm
Speculation about who will be NU's next head coach is at a fever pitch. Flights are being tracked. Tom Osborne is being accosted by TV reporters on the tarmac. And, fan speculation on the Internet is running wild. Basically, everybody is on "alert" and seeking anything that points to a decision and possible announcement, even if the vacancy is less than a week old. And, more and more, the speculation surrounds one Mark "Bo" Pelini. The whole thing reminded me of one of the greatest terms ever conceived online - Bogasm.
Bogasm?
This is a term that started circulating online circa 2004, when Pelini became a hot coaching name. And, it resurfaces every time he is a viable candidate for a job - Syracuse, Michigan State, etc. I didn't make this up. And, I don't know who coined it. If I did, I'd give them a hat tip. Anyway, here it is...
bogasm
Main Entry: bo·gasm
Pronunciation: 'bo-"ga-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: A combination of Bo Pelini's first name (the greatest one-game head coach EVER) and New Latin orgasmus, from Greek orgasmos, from organ to grow ripe, be lustful.
: intense or paroxysmal excitement, especially when thinking about Bo Pelini becoming the head coach at your favorite football program: an explosive discharge of neuromuscular tensions at the height of making a post in a public sports forum about Bo Pelini, followed by an intense sense of personal shame that you just spooged yourself in front of God and everyone over Bo Pelini.
- bo·gas·mic /bo-'gaz-mik/ also bo·gas·tic /bo-'gas-tik/ adjective
Excruciating...
Many NU fans I talk to are just about at the edge of their chair with anticipation or excitement. It's bogasmic around Omaha. For example, at lunch today all three tables around ours were discussing the possibility of Pelini as NU's head coach at some point. That is a small but typical sample, I think.
We're more than willing to let our imagination and excitement take us just about anywhere. For example, what appears to be a fairly typical end-of-season team meeting was seen by many as a sure sign that a new coach is going to be announced. It's very likely not. But, we can hope, can't we? What a bogastic event that would be. Until then, we'll all have to flaccidly stand by for at least another day as Osborne works to secure the next coach.
Don't get me wrong. BRN is a huge fan of Bo Pelini. Steve actually said he "lusts" for him, (in the football sense, of course). I think the guy could be our Bob Stoops. And, frankly I hope the coaching search ends up quickly. Another prolonged search would be horrible. But, right now the anticipation is killing many people. We should all just...keep our pants on...and know that Tom will get things shored up in short order. He's obviously moving quickly. So, please don't start seeing things that aren't there, or trying to make the world bend to your will. It will happen soon enough.
And, if for whatever reason Bo Pelini isn't NU's next coach, the program can not afford for some faction of its fans to deteriorate into metaphorical torch-wielding lunatics just because their own expectations weren't met. If it is Bo, that is great. If it happens fast, that's even better. If not, we need to move on pride intact and without a messy and embarrassing cleanup.

Darren, yes it is the greatest word ever invented and born here on bigrednetwork. Loooooool, what a great term. Potentially a sack, tackle for loss, hurry, blindside on a QB, de-cleater, etc., are all "bogasms". Wow, I can't control myself everytime I see that word. . .
Husker Nation, we got a young team. Look at the depth chart. Lots of potential playmakers: Dillard, Culbert, Thenarse (is one already not potential), Pierre Allen, Asante (honorable mention all conference as a soph.), and Blue to mention. LaTravis Washington at LB is intriguing as well. On offense, pay attention to DJ Jones, Burkes, Mike Smith, Keith Williams, Helu, Castille, Lawson, Holt, Paul, and Patrick Witt. . .
doombob called 9 wins next year and I'm rolling with him. He called 51 points vs Colorado. Guys keep up the great work at the site!!!

James - Thanks. Like I said in the post, it isn't a term I invented. But, it is one I am more than happy to circulate. :-)
Back to business for a sec - reports indicate that Grobe has been interviewed. Is he likely the guy? Probably not. But, that makes three candidates now. I think it is Pelini's job to lose. But, we all need to prepare for a future where that may not be the case.

Check out JR (Wow) - putting money, or steak, on it.
And...calling out the dates. That's impressive and ballsy.
I think we all should hold off on prognostication until ... August. Or at least until we have a coach and staff. :-)

There certainly are alot of man-crushes on Coach BOP! Oh, his initials happen to match my fake name--I just noticed that!
Haha, hahhahahahaha......blooop...bogasm!
Atsa spaghetti meatballa....!
Seriously, though, I don't want our search for a coach to be 'impulsively bogasmic'. They HAVE to interview Kelly,IMO, but get the right guy.
The more I think about it, a SUCCESSFUL Gill would be the absolute best scenario for all of Husker Nacione.
Grobe is an anti-bogasm, IMO. If that guy actually becomes coach, I'ma gonna cry.....

Hey, I'm a fan, not a pundit. I'll give my "official" opinion on everyone in the Big 12 after spring ball. I'll then revise it right before the first week of college football. Then I'll revise it one more time right before league play. Then again at mid-season. That way, one of them is bound to be right and I'll still look like a genius!

Pelini Not Interview Well?
I beg to differ:
BO P(at interview): "So'z ya'z NOT a gonna make'a me ya coach ah ya'z?! How'za 'bout my brotha Vinni here breaks botha ya legs for ya'z--ya gotta problem wi'h dat?!"

Ze,
Don't taze me bro!!! looooooooool.
Just wanted to add that I live in suburban Washington, D.C. and as a Redskins fan as well I wanted to ask all who come here to give a moment of silence for Sean Taylor. Enormous talent who was making some huge strides towards becoming a fully mature and responsible young man. He leaves behind a young daughter and a fiancee. May God Bless Him and may he rest in peace.

I say we make Turner the AD and Bo the HC.
Turner is smart enough for the AD position and Bo is the right man for the job of HC.
EVERYBODY WINS !!!!!!!

JM,
I had really known nothing about sean Taylor, but it's tragic that he was killed.
Tyler Nov 28 07
cvldfg:
But Turner has no AD experience so that must mean he needs to go AD somewhere else and then when TO is sure he's matured he can take his turn as the NU AD (smirk).
