Nancy Osborne Named Interim Head Football Widow
In a surprise move, Nancy Osborne became Nebraska's interim head football widow on Wednesday. Gary Bargen, NU’s assistant athletic director for compliance, notified the Big XII Conference that Osborne would be interim head football widow until a replacement for Valerie Callahan is found.
Said Osborne, "Honestly, I thought that period of my life was long over. But, when Harvey [Perlman] called and asked me to assist the program in finding a new football widow... Well, how could I say no?"
The appointment also means that husband, Tom, will once again become Nebraska's head coach.
"Tom has been very supportive through all this. I think he wishes I'd just hang it up and play golf or something, but he knows how important this program is to me."
When asked what qualities she looks for in a football widow, Nancy said she's looking for someone who has previous head football widow experience, a strong work ethic and a good hobby.
"I find knitting and charity work to be a good way to pass the time, but if a candidate was into scrap booking or coaching soccer, I wouldn't hold it against her."
Osborne said there's no firm time line for naming a replacement, but the search is on track. "I'd really like to have this all wrapped up by Christmas. The kids and grandkids are all coming over, so I've got a lot of work to do to get ready."

I am a little stumped??? Why is TO meeting with a recruit who is comitted to Buffalo? As the Omaha World Herald reports:
Osborne...stopped by Elkhorn High...to meet lineman Brian Thorson and defender Sean Fisher.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Thorson, committed recently to the University of Buffalo. Thorson said he's not wavering on his commitment to Buffalo. "A lot of people ask me what I'll do if Turner Gill comes to Nebraska," Thorson said. "I don't want to speculate too much. But if he does end up coming, I'll have to take a step back and look at everything."
This really can only mean one thing, afterall TO isn't going to try to steal a committed recruit from under Gill's nose is he? But if Gill is our new head coach, why hasn't TO announced it already?

GREAT Satire, Jason. Very pithy.
Bill in Iowa - Hmm...maybe because Gill is coming to NU...but not as the HC. ;-)

Darren, you said it and I was thinking it, but I was kind of afraid to say it. :) People on the fence between Bo and Gill may be able to have both a Bogasm and a Gillgasm...at the same time!

Wouldn't it be "cool" if Tom Osborne did steal a recruit from Turner Gill (ala Ron Prince style). Do you think TG and Buffalo fans would react to Tom Osborne the way NU fans reacted when Prince did it to Nebraska? Heh, heh.

Mizzou Fans Named Interim Classiest Fans in the Country
In a stunning Big 12 turnaround, one of the Big 12's biggest rivalries (MU vs. KU) has lead to Missouri Tiger Fans being named the interim "Classiest Fans in the Country." After the Tigers win over the Jayhawks last weekend, the Big 12 was pleased to see very little taunting and almost no fistfights after the game was complete.
"We had a few incidents, but in many cases, fans of boths teams left in the SAME VEHICLE on their way home," said one Big 12 Spokesperson. "There were even cases of fans of the opposing teams being family members."
The title of Classiest fans was recinded from the Nebraska Cornhusker faithful after a year that tested many a person's mettle. After boosters began to pull their money, fans booed at games, coaches lives were verbally threatened, and fairweather fans jumped off the bandwagon, we found out that many Husker fans are just like everyone else in the country. The return of Dr. Tom Osborne is likely to snap many to their senses, leaving the rest of us with common sense to breath a sigh of relief.
Now that Callahan's bad attitude is out the door, expect the Classiest Fans title to return sometime soon. The next few years success on the field and off-field behavior will bring improvement with each season.
