Lucky's Last Day?

For the Husker Seniors, the game at Colorado could be their last. The same could be said of the coaching staff. But for one junior, it could also be the last time we see him play. While Marlon Lucky perhaps hasn't lived up to the huge expectations fans had of the five-star recruit, he has put together the most productive season from scrimmage since Ahman Green. And that's saying something.

With the future of Husker football very much in limbo, there has to be doubt in Lucky's mind whether he can equal or surpass his production next season. Which is why it should surprise no one to see Lucky declare for the NFL draft after this season. Sure, there are a ton of big-name backs that could go ahead of Lucky, but even with them out of the picture in 2009, he's still got to worry about guys like Quentin Castille, Roy Helu, Cody Glenn, and Marcus Mendoza. Especially if they head into training camp all basically starting over in a new offense.

For many fans, 2007 has been a season they'll be more than happy to forget. But this last game (or pair of games) could well be the last chance to see Lucky in Husker red. And that's worth watching closely because who knows whether it will be another 10 years before Nebraska finds another back as productive.

The article on Huskerextra makes it sound like he might stay.

I want Marlon to make the choice for his best interests. But, one of the things Nebraska needs for longterm success under any coach are players that develop in the program for 4 and 5 years.

Marlon has had a lot of ups and downs since coming to Nebraska. He deserves a lot of credit for persevering. If he stays he's certain to be an important part of next year's team. But like Randy I certainly would hope that Marlon makes the choice that is in his best interest. Going early may very well be his best choice.

I think I'm gettng an "11th hour" feeling on Callahan's future at NU. IF Callahan has an explosive offensive outburst then TO just might see that he (U of N) is "pot commited" and will be just as well off replacing the Defensive coach and ride the storm since Billy C will be getting paid no matter what happens. Callahan may not want to or be up to the task at NU anymore with a lot of the fans wanting his head. IF BC comes out of this game with a win and a big offensive output, then he might just like pocketing 3 million and walking after auditioning fora new job on the field.

I know Marlon has been a huge part of this offense. We'll miss him but he can be replaced. He is not bigger than this team and losing Ahman Green a year early was a bigger loss than it would be losing Lucky a year early. Whatever Lucky decides I wish him the best and it has been nothing but enjoyment watching him perform this year.

Callahan's Last Day? 2 p.m. central time right now. Win or lose this game, Callahan should be gone. Doesn't matter what happens the rest of the game. Guy doesn't know how to run a game. Leaving the game on TV, but I'm going to eat leftovers now.

Hey doombob....

He still has another 24 hours or so. I still think that if you look at the season as a whole, Cosgrove would be the first I would have done away with. The fact that Callahan won't do something with his buddy speaks volumes about his priorities.

Scott, you are right. Callahan puts his friend above his livlihood (U of N). That's the way he rolls and that "speaks volumes" about his level of respect (none) for the university, his players and his family though this guy should have no roblem living with the 3 million $ he extorted from the University of Nebraska with his "smoke and mirrors" act. You know, I worked with a guy once who pulled a "Callahan" with my boss and my boss sent his ass packin. We have recovered nicely since.

I realize this post is after the fact and thinking about it now, the answer is pretty obvious. Marlon has to go. Why confuse yourself with another offense? Unless, incredibly, Shawn Watson is retained.
I never thought he would stay his senior year, anyway. He's fit and he's well schooled in a bonifide pro style offense. Why mess with that? I'm also reminded of his concussions during fall camp.
This fiasco is none of his fault, he's been "stalwart" as Callahan might say. He may not be as high a pick as Brandon was, but he should be just as likely to stick with a team and make NFL "baller" type money into the foreseeable future.
Love to have him back for another year, though.
