Face Off in Lawrence

About a decade ago, the movie Face Off came out. In the film, Nicholas Cage and John Travolta switched faces in perhaps the most implausible movie plot in memory. And yet as the Jayhawks lambasted the Huskers in Lawrence, you couldn’t help but wonder if the Huskers might really be hiding under those blue uniforms and that the Jayhawks were dressed up as Nebraskans.

By rolling up 24 points in the first half, the Huskers came out on pace to score 48 in the first start for Joe Ganz. The problem? Kansas rolled up twice as many points in the first half and threatened to score 100.

But have no fear Husker fans, because the coaches are doing an excellent job in all areas. We know that because Bill Callahan said so. Just imagine how embarrassing things might be if they weren’t.

But wait. Was that really Callahan…?

It sounded like Callahan wanted to fire Coach Coz after the game. Did any one else here that?

Doug Williams Nov 03 07

I actually had a thought much like that during the game. I was thinking how odd it was to feel like Kansas fans used to feel when playing Nebraska. Like there was just no hope of stopping them. Like the game was over by the half. Like we just didn't have the ability or depth to match up.

Then I realized the Huskers are probably still deeper in talent by far than the Jayhawks and I started using unkind language about the coaching staff very loudly. At least I resisted throwing things at my television this time.

Congrats to KU as they played an awesome game and are having a great season. Nice work Mangino.

I know the players kept playing and I appreciate that. It's just a football game. I had a lady tell me she thought KU was running up the score. I told her it's our job to stop them. This is probably how KU used to feel. I told her it's good for us to feel like this so we appreciate what we had a decade ago even more because we will never see that again.

What do the coaches say after this one? Oh wait, probably the same thing they always say. "It's correctable, one or two guys out of position, minor breakdowns in assignment. I still think I'm doing an excellent job....so is Cos'. It's a crazy season."

Scott, That was nice of you to give KU alot of credit for playing well. I also liked how you put it in perspective for the lady. losing graciously isn't aways easy.

The article is not right: it was not NE in blue jerseys today, we would never have allowed 39 points from the opposition while rolling up 70+.

Geez KU, what's yer prob?

Anyway, I turned to another game after KU had 50 something--was even more frustrated watching the Pokes let the Horns off the 'HOOK'(!)--and prayed that they wouldn't get over 70. Well, my agnosticism has turned to complete atheism, how could a kind and just Ethereal Super Dad let this happen?

Really, I find it difficult to identify with this team. These coaches are gone like a train, Coz's D could not even stop a clogged drain.

BO P is already in the works, mark my word.
And I agree with Andrew above, that it sounded like Calli wanted to ax Coz, but they're both gone, so let's get the season over already....

Ze, I hope your right. I will be anxiously wait for the change, hopefully 11/5 , like you say could happen.

Dear Bug-eaters,
You guys are going to have to start from scratch now. You've got to let go and get beyond Dr. Tom the same way we did when Bill McCartney left. Actually, I thought Solich was a pretty good coach but 8 or 9 wins per season just wasn't good enough. It looks like the 63 that CU hung on you a few years ago may have been the beginning of the downtrend for the Nebraska program. I was really hoping you'd be more competitive so a CU victory over the "little" red would mean something.

Typical Puff Fan,

Coming on BR boards because they have nothing to talk about on their own boards except the good ol' McCartney days.

All brazen after a 55-10 beat down--makes sense....

CU Dave Nov 04 07

I'll admit, CU is not a very good team yet. Upsetting Oklahoma then getting taken apart by Missouri. The NU/CU game should be pretty good one. I don't think it will matter who the couch will be for that game.

I amazingly have found myself pulling for Puffs more than a few times this year(namely, last night), mainly because I'm a sucker for the underdog, except when it comes to Big Red(prefer being the Big Dog there), of course; I'm sorry, l'il red for now.

Anyway, NU/CU should be an exciting game, from an objective, cellar dweller point of view. And one can always hope for the extra tantalizing drama of the clearing of the student section at Folsom! :)

Boulder's a pretty cool town.
