Everything Old Is New Again
Recent events are starting to make me think that everything Husker-football related is just going back and starting over, as if the last four years never happened. First Osborne comes back, then the coaching candidates from 2003, and now even Steve Pederson is heading back to where he came from.
Tom Osborne accepting the mantle of interim AD is one thing. And, I get why he named himself interim head coach. That was understandable and even a bit nostalgic.
But, things started to get a little eerie when the two candidates who got nominal "head pat" interviews from Pederson in 2003 (Gill and Pelini) are now the confirmed finalists for the very same job four years later. I can't be the only one struck by the irony there.
Now, there is news that Steve Pederson is returning to the AD job at Pittsburgh, where he was before taking the job at NU. Who says you can never go back?
Okay, seriously, this is like something out of a trippy dream sequence on television, or an episode of Quantum Leap (good show), or Peabody's Improbably History from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons.
Hop in the "wayback machine", Sherman. We're going back to 2003!

This reminds me of the time I was reading Blaine Gabbert articles in reverse this summer and I thought he was losing his commitment to Nebraska. Now I don't have to read them in reverse to get that feeling! And all Osborne has to do name himself permanent head coach with Gill and Bo as Coordinators and it will be like we were in an episode of Sliders...

The problem with Pederson is that he had too much of an emotional attachment to the football program and I think he was too hung up on beating Texas and Oklahoma from a fan standpoint that it hurt NU right from the start.
Hopefully the actions from our "fans" directed towards some of the coaches children doesn't keep someone from coming here with their families.
For what it's worth...great article on ESPN Insider talking about how Osborne may have beat the system by being able to visit recruits in their homes, and then how the next coach will be able to do the same thing based on limited number of visits one coach can make to a recruit. He isn't a Dr. by accident.
More power to Pitt....better them than us.

Steve Pederson: "The hardest decision of my life was leaving Pitt..." Guess he never lost sleep over that little 9-3 Frank Solich deal. Loser Steve. I may never eat Heinz products again.

Ze and Husker Nation, now the word is that Bo Pelini is the guy. Who do you think the offensive coach could be?? Congrats and good luck. Go Big Red!

I just wish Tom was 10 years younger in this scenario. He seemed to be an old 60 at the time. Leaving back then made sense.
In '03, Bo and Turner were much too unproven, especially coming off of firing a guy who (I think) shouldn't have been fired. Pederson needed to make a splash and the waves have resonated up until this very moment.
The weirdness ends in a few days with (reportedly) Pelini's hiring. I even expect Callahan to soon land on his feet. Assistent jobs will open up a week or so into January after the NFL regular season ends.
Another guy who sits precariously is Jay Norvell. That staff could be let go after the SC game.
So many coaches to track, nowadays.....

ou7,
No idea on OCs, haven't kept up on those guys. Be great to get that guy from Oregon, but he's probably not going anywhere except to be an HC someday.
They might keep Watson, but I think they'll go go with a guy that runs primarily a spread option ala WV.
Would've like to have seen Gill get it, but I hope OZ is right with BO P, who I have also advocated. BO has the NFL ties which is a good thing.
Brian Kelly, I think, was probably the most proven HC candidate that I liked.
