I'm sorry, I just can't let Hawaii at number 3 go by without a rant. If win loss record is so important and strength of schedule and victory margin has no bearing what so ever, lets not stop at Hawaii. Why not put UNO at number 4? They're undefeated. Who cares that it was against nothing but Division II competition? They're undefeated, that's all that matters according to you. I understand that wins mean a lot, but I don't like looking at one factor and putting all your weight towards that one factor without taking anything else into consideration. I mean, do you really think Hawaii would be undefeated if they played in the SEC? If you can honestly say they would be or would have at most one loss, then fine, put them 3rd. But if you look at Hawaii and believe they would have 2 or 3 or more losses if they played in the SEC, like I would, then don't put them at number 3. That's just ridiculous. And I know you've put more weight on win loss record this year because the way the season has gone, but that still just bothers me. And I usually like your guys' opinions on this website, but I just can't let this one go. Go Boise State and Washington. Beat Hawaii. Please.

Definitely the worst poll I'vw seen all year--sorry. KS and HI, 2 & 3?!!!
O.K., I can play at that game:
"Who's # 2!"
So, in keeping with this season's misplaced hype, KU, MO, or UConn are all prime candidates for the Cinderella Award; that being, crowned #2 this week.
Hmmm, a case could be made for any one of the 3, I really don't care.
But the most compelling story to me is which one will 'go down'/'choke' like a 'cheap'....EDIT... next. UConn and KU have golden opportunities next weekend, facing @Cinci and @Cowpokes, respectively. UConn has another grand opportunity when they face @WV in 3 weeks. MO's only remaining test is vs KU in 3 weeks. But, it's set up perfectly for Pinkel Factoid vs aTm next week or KSU the following week.
KU has somehow avoided playing TX or OK in the reg season, so on that basis alone I vote them this week's #2 pretender.
But UConn has beaten the former #2 pretender, USF, so maybe some of that Karma has rubbed off on them and they should be annointed to the 2 spot. Plus, their QB is virtually unknown, so let's hype him as the front runner for the Heisman--'cause he 'won some games'. 'WooHoo!
Seriously, I think Daniels is deserving of his Heisman hype and the KU QB should be included in the mix, at least until one of those teams chokes(Dennis Dixon--and NOT Mike Hart!!!-- being the frontrunner, IMO).
BTW, USF had 31 put up on them by Cinci yesterday: IN THE FIRST QTR., mainly due to the bumblings of their special teams and offense. Makes me wonder why Big Red wasn't rated #2 earlier in the season.
Take yer pic!

--TTech at 14, above those others, absolutely no way. ASU also too high--they lost handley to OR--remember...?

Also, how unbelievable is it that Cal isn't even ranked anymore?!

In some sense, I view these rankings the same way I'd view the BCS. You earn your slot based on what you've done on the field versus what people would expect of you on some theoretical field.
If/when Hawaii loses, they'd plummet. But if they run the table, I'm going to keep them high. I think they could light up just about any team in the country, but their defense would have trouble stopping a shoutout. If I were handicapping, I'd put them on par with Texas Tech (who you might have noticed, I've got at #14). But in a season where just about nobody can avoid an upset, I place a premium for the time being on teams that can do that.
If Hawaii and Ohio State were the last two teams standing, I'd give Hawaii the shot. This year especially, these smaller conference teams deserve a chance to show how good they can be.

This is abslolute absurdity, but I've found some people just always play the undefeated card no matter what and, after a year, I'm not wasting anymore breath on it.
KU hasn't played a team in the top 25, nor has HI I'm pretty sure, and they were in a fight with the vaunted SJSU. But hey, if that's YOUR #3 team so be it.
J Mo's point rdgd the SEC is completely true, HI might be the 7th best in that conf., KU MAYBE 4th or 5th.

Play the undefeated card as much as possible. One of these days the NCAA will realize that a 16 team playoff will be the ONLY way to determine a national champ that will leave a minimum of people (10% or less) unhappy. The only way to do that is flaunt in their face the system they have put so much faith in until it cracks under the strain of so many seasons like this one.
