Tom_Osborne.jpg Well, that was fast. The Lincoln Journal Star is reporting that Chancellor Harvey Perlman will name Tom Osborne NU's Athletic Director at a 5:15 PM press conference today.

It is unclear if the post will be temporary or permanent for Osborne. However, in Monday's press conference Perlman said a search firm would be hired to assist in finding the next AD. He also said that he would be consulting with Osborne. One would assume that Osborne will be brought in on an interim basis.

We'll know more after today's 5:15 PM press conference. You can watch it live at KETV or listen on 1620 The Zone.

Update 4:50 PM: NU confirms that Osborne will serve as interim athletic director in an open ended arrangement. Read the official press announcement.

Jason,

Do you really think TO would fire BC? I just don't think he would, I think he wants it to work.

I really don't know Andrew. With his coaching background you'd expect him to give Callahan some slack and more time to work things out. But, if you listened to his press conference today, you heard someone who was clearly not happy with the current state of the program. He didn't go out of his way to voice his support of the coaching staff either.

My guess is that he will focus on finding an AD and fund raising and leave any personnel changes for BC and the new AD to decide. Either way, I don't expect any coaching changes until the off season.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'll continue supporting the program either way.

Who all thinks ol' BC looked up and said GOD has arrived and I've been a bad boy with his toy.

Now this is what really scares me! Coaching legend Tom Osborne comes onboard as new A.D. after old A.D. fired after biggest home loss in Lincoln since 1958 or '59. The Cornhuskers will be focused as their coach fights for his job on every single Saturday going forward (as if he wasn't before, just like the Ags (current) Coach Dennis Franchione. Ags are favored in 6 of 7 categories ... but the Cornhuskers are projected to win only by 2. I'd say this will be scary to watch, but both teams are so bad that the A&M @ Nebraska game isn't even on TV this Saturday in the largest Texas media market of Houston! Now that's when you know both teams are bad.
