Texas Has Great Timing
The Longhorns have had a knack for catching the Huskers at the right time. Whether it was 1996 just after Terrell Farley was kicked off the team or 1998 when walk-on Monte Cristo was pressed into service at quarterback, Texas has caught Nebraska at some of its weaker moments.
This year is no different. The Huskers confidence was sky high after the opening weekend and the Longhorns were a mess as they struggled to beat Arkansas State. Maybe if the Huskers had opened the season in Austin, they’d have had a better chance than they will this weekend.
Over the course of the seven weeks that followed, the Huskers came apart. First, with poor assignment football against Wake Forest, then embarrassing run defense against USC, then seemingly no defense against Ball State, then yielding 100 plays to hapless Iowa State, then the Missouri meltdown, followed by the OSU no-show, and then finally the whiff against A&M. The Huskers are without confidence and seemingly without hope of saving their season.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns took a step forward by beating 19th-ranked TCU, then a step back with an escape at Central Florida, then a step forward by destroying Rice, then a big step back losing badly at home to Kansas State and then another in losing to rival Oklahoma. Timing-wise, that would not have been a bad time to face Texas. But in the last two weeks the Longhorns put it all together at Iowa State and had a nice win at Baylor. Now, the Huskers limp into Austin where they haven’t won since 1960.
It seems once again the Longhorns will profit from good timing and Nebraska will continue its struggles against Texas. They'll also benefit from a lack of big time football games in their time slot, meaning most of the country will get to watch Texas pound the Huskers. Not a happy thought, but now’s not the time.

A lot better effort today, but those breakdowns late sealed the deal. I know that a "win is a win" but had NU won today, would it have made any differece in what looks to be a coaching change at the end of the year? If Callahan all of the suddden wins games, will it put Osborne in a tough spot by letting a coach go when he is showing improvement? The season is totally lost now and I would be fearful that winning now might further delay the inevitable and screw up recruiting classes beyond this year.

Hey Cornhusker Fan who stood the entire game in the Southeast part of the stadium during the "beat down" on Saturday - Did you get the entire ambiance of the experience Saturday while you stood the entire time during the game? I hope so because if you didn't realize it Todd Ressing is only a sophomore who threw six TD passes against your beloved Huskers. HA, HA, HA!!!! We did get the final laugh you jackass and yes we will beat your Huskers down on the hardcourt as well. Oh well, I guess there is always girls volleyball to rally around.
