I have to say that I really love the hype surrounding this game. Everywhere you tune in it's NU-USC this... If you really think about this game, it's HUGE! Coach "C" has this team in it's 4th year. Last year was an opportunity to upstage the #4 team in the nation (USC), and fell 19 pts short of the win, on the road. These are now his players. Let's suppose that should NU drop this game at home and by a large margin, what will the NU fan base have to say? Keep in mind that Coach BC just signed a contract extension. Will the fans look at this as a "non progression" situation? Now, if NU does win this game, this subject would be moot. We have heard about all of the studs that NU has and will be bringing in in the future. Nebraska has the athletes in place. Now has to be the time to "pay up in full", in my opinion. The stage is set. Playing in Lincoln is huge but all games are not played in Lincoln, and you just can't realistically rely on your fans to raise hell with noise at every game to help your team win. It obviously will take at the very least, a solid game plan and near perfect execution. Isn't this what the whole season is about anyway? Granted, this team is #1 in the polls and that was based on a preseason opinion. USC did not play well against Idaho and NU struggled against Wake after having dismantled Nevada the week before. One thing you can be sure of is that tomorrow at about 10:00PM Central time, alot of questions will have been answered.

Most rational fans will take this game in stride should NE lose a close--though with some disappointment. Calli haters will just be amplifying the, 'I told you so,' rhetoric. If we lose by a large margin everyone will be pissed.
Calli's recruits are pretty young still, Keller is in his first year on the field with this system, so that is a valid consideration to some extent. NE does not have top 5 talent, but fall somewhere in the 5-15 category. That being said, IF Calli is such a great coach, he should be able to pull off a 'Boise'(or K-state) somewhere along the line--and soon. That's the measuring stick at this point. Plus, if NE finishes with fewer than 10 wins this season MOST will be pretty cranky about it.
I think the Gabbert era, should that come to fruition, will be the 'do or die' time for Callahan. I like the guy alot and hope he succeeds within Big Red Nation's high expectations.
BTW, how many years in his contract extension, I've read anywhere from 2, 3, to 5 years?
BEAT SC!!!

p.s., looked what happened to Okie St. tonight, losing to Troy. The Cowboys leave me scratching my head....

In listening to the weather podcast, is it 'for real' that BR fans have a tailgating game called, 'corn hole'?! OOOOOO-kay....sounds like a party to me!

Heh. Ya Ze that's what it's called. It's actually really popular in Chicago too. They recently had a huge tournament at Solider Field.

14-10 Our rushing D is horrendous, I mean just pathetic. And we're not moving it on the ground. Get it together!

Well, that was THE worst defensive showing by a BR team that I've ever seen; it was as if they weren't on the field. How coulod they play that bad? Unbelievable! Where were the linebackers, the ends??? I tend to blame COZ for this one. Our athletes are not THAT inferior to SC's, though they are inferior--to OU, FL, LSU, and a number of other teams, as well.
I don't see us getting much better over the next few years, or ever, unless something seriously different starts to happen with our recruiting. We just aren't getting the top talent.
I actually find myself feeling sorry for CO(in FSU game) after watching what SC did to Big Red.
But we should have given SC a better game.

Wow, that totally sucked! Our D may as well have stayed in the lockerroom for the game, it was as if they were not on the field anyway. Our athletes ARE not as good as Sc's, but they are not THAT inferior. COZ has some answering to do for that one....
