Sizing Up Iowa State (2007)
A look at the ISU depth chart gives you a quick sense as to why they’re 1-3 so far this season. Their offensive line is a patchwork unit with the tackle spots manned by a skinny junior college transfer and a redshirt freshman. With the exception of their nose tackle, the front seven for the Cyclone defense is undersized. The secondary isn’t real big either.
So they’d seem to be a team that you could run or pass on, and a team where you could shut down the run and pass. At 6’5, ISU wide receiver Todd Blythe is sure to have his opportunities. Jamicah Bass is a good running back out of the backfield. Bret Meyer is an experienced quarterback. But ISU is a team that’s struggled to score points for more than a year now. You could think of the matchup between ISU’s offense and NU’s defense as the resistable force versus the movable object.
Defensively, they haven’t been terrible against mostly mediocre competition. Their rush defense is decent. They don’t commit penalties. But they turn the ball over and get little out of the return game. Despite the bad two weeks for Nebraska and the relatively good two weeks for Iowa State, the Sagarin predictor ratings would still make the Huskers a 22-point favorite over the Cyclones.
These days, any team can win on any given Saturday. But you wouldn’t want to bet the farm on ISU pulling the upset in Lincoln this week.

Wow. Go on vacation for a week and look what you miss. Nobody's betting the farm on the ISU game. That's a sad statement.

Hopefully, this is a good "work out the kinks" game. Then again, I thought Ball State might be that too. I'm hoping this game is over by half.

If it is over by half, I hope the youngin's get some PT. It will be interesting to see the Major on the other side of the ball again.
Be sure to get some up close pics of Corey McCryin' this week as he pouts about losing reps. I hope to see fury as he tries to earn his Blackshirt back.

Question to BRN: Any word on player only team meetings? I'm wondering if the players are having any "Come to Jesus" meetings in hopes of "righting the ship". If not, maybe that's only for when you are losing and not so much when you are just struggling and still winning. Just wondering if you've heard anything?

OU7times: if you didn't, you should listen to the 1620 the Zone interview yesterday of Jerry Murtaugh, Christian Peter, Mike Minter, Steve Warren, and Broderick Thomas. It was powerful as they discussed what should be done. These former players, placed the onus upon the current players to fix things. There is a podcast under 1620 the Zone Unsportsmanlike Conduct. I'd recommend it to anyone and it addresses your thoughts....
