Mark Your Calendars
For those of you who are married or with significant others, you may have had to learn the hard way that if you don’t stay on top of your calendar (and the Husker schedule) your spouse could well make plans for you both to attend a dinner party when USC and Nebraska are set to face off.
That’s why it’s good to stay on top of the schedule of games you want to see so that you aren’t dining with the Flanders when the Huskers upset the number one team in the country. Beyond that, it’s also helpful to get a sense of where other big games you’d want to see fall so that you aren’t vacationing in Europe when Nebraska plays its bowl game. You also want to be able to be in the right place to watch the games in case your cable TV situation won’t allow you to receive every game.
You should already know that Nebraska plays Nevada at 2:30 Central on Sept. 1 (an ABC regional broadcast), Nebraska plays Wake Forest at 11 am Central on Sept. 8 (on ESPN), and USC at 7 pm Central on Sept. 15 (on ABC nationally), and they’ll play Colorado at 11 am Central on November 23 (on ABC nationally). ABC will carry the Big 12 championship game on December 1 at 7 pm Central (on ABC nationally). Those are the best games to plan since they’ve already set the kickoff.
In order to be sure to catch Ball St. (Sept. 22), ISU (Sept. 29), Mizzou (October 6), OSU (Oct. 13), A&M (Oct. 20), Texas (Oct. 27), Kansas (Nov. 3), or KSU (Nov. 10) you have to block out pretty much the entire day from 10:30 am Central to 10:30 at night. They don’t lock in the starting times until usually Sunday or Monday before the games are played.
At this point, there are a ton of bowl possibilities but at least most have times associated as well. The national championship game (Jan. 7), Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 2), and Orange Bowl (Jan. 3) are all at 7 pm Central on Fox. You can pretty much block out all day on New Year’s Day to cover the Cotton, Gator, Sugar and Rose Bowls (running throughout the day on major networks). The Holiday Bowl (Dec. 27), Alamo Bowl (Dec. 29), and Independence Bowl (Dec. 30) are on ESPN at 7pm Central. December 31 has the Sun Bowl at 1 pm Central on CBS. The Insight Bowl will also be on December 31 on the NFL network (time TBA). The Texas Bowl is also on the NFL Network at 7 pm Central on Dec. 28.
It that sounds like a lot to absorb, you can make it simple. Football begins in September and the Huskers play every Saturday until mid-November. The Colorado game comes the day after Thanksgiving, and the Big 12 title game comes about a week later (Dec. 1). Then there’s no Husker football until after Christmas. Hopefully you’re whole family will be hyped enough about the bowl that that date will be eagerly anticipated.

That's why I always try to hold off my vacations until it's recruiting season...that way I don't miss a thing!

You can't change deer firearm season in Nebraska. You can only choose to hunt when the games aren't on.
