HUSKER UP!

The Husker's season opener is just one day away. You are having trouble focusing on your job or school work anyway. So, when you are ready to give up on your typical hum drum day and fully commit to Husker mayhem...BRN has you covered.
We present the first HUSKER UP Friday post, filled with goodies to get your blood pumping. This time, it covers cerebral Husker thoughts, powerful images and visceral emotions through everything from the written word to the magic of YouTube video.
Here we go, Big Red fans. It is time to HUSKER UP!
For those of you who need deep and meaningful thought to get your brain going (hey...we see you over there, charting plays in your head when other people are screaming at the television), we offer the following meaningful pieces of poetry and prose to get your engine started.
First, this from Willa Cather. Yes, seriously, that Willa Cather, the author of My Antonia and other great works, who happens to hail from Red Cloud.
It (Nebraska football) is one of a few survivals of the heroic. It arouses only the simplest and most normal emotions. Of course it is brutal, but so are Homer and Tolstoy brutal. A good football game is an epic. It arouses the oldest part of us.

For those seeking something more steeped in tradition, here is the majestic thought from the southwest corner of Memorial Stadium (written by Hartley Burr Alexander.)
"Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory."
In the deed the glory, folks. Gets ya every time.

Take a gander at these images and tell me you don't get a little more pumped up.

Ah...behold the third largest city in Nebraska.

Who are we kidding? It is a new media world. No more fancy words and pretty pictures. Click on some of these files, and crank your speakers.

A preview of the new tunnel walk music? Nice variation on a classic.
Touchdown NU...queue Hail Varsity. Frankly, I dig the piccolo part.
And, last but not least, we gotta drop some video on you. Of the thousands available for the picking on YouTube, this one might best capture the rich tradition of NU football.
Now, it is time for the Huskers to add to that tradition. Time for fans to HUSKER UP!

...Interesting to see Steve Pedersen's face while Osborne is crossing the field after the '94 Orange Bowl win. How ironic.
