Fall Camp For Fans: Speed Drills
In just a few weeks, fans will be sitting down in the Memorial Stadium bleachers, living room couches or a bar stool in their local establishment to watch the Huskers take on Nevada on September 1st. The Huskers' hot and hard-knocked practice and preparation for this game is well documented. Considering the effort they are making, you have to ask yourself - what am I doing to get ready for the season? So, BRN offers this second installment of Fall Camp for Fans. This one is about "speed drills" - quick top-of-mind knowledge tests concerning NU's 2007 roster and lineup.
If you are prepared, this won't be hard. If you aren't, then you better shape up or be prepared to ride the proverbial pine on football Saturday. You gotta know these things or end up being the person whose job it is to make sure there are enough plastic cups or something.
Okay, here we go. On the line and on my whistle. Ready....
Correctly identify the players who wear the following jersey numbers - 9, 5, 51, 77, 15, 83.
Those are all probable starters on September 1st, people! And, at least some of those numbers should sound a little familiar...
Name two players from each of the following states - Nebraska, Texas, Minnesota.
You gotta know this, people. Recruiting 101. Nebraska should be easy, and there are nearly a dozen players from Texas. Sure, there are only 3 from the land of 1000 lakes, but two of them are major contributors to the team. They are names you should know.
Name any three players that are 6'5'' tall or taller.
Come on...faster...faster. Too obscure? Not when you realize there are 16 players on the roster with that physical qualification. NU's squad is getting taller each year.
Name 5 players on NU's roster who formerly played football at a Junior College.
Some of you are grumbling "Jeez, five. Come on coach..." I don't want to hear it. There are 16 players on the current roster listing a JC affiliation. Asking you to name less than a third of them isn't too much.
Last one...dig deep...finish strong... How many players on NU's roster are listed as Seniors?
Yeah, I know it is tough to be right on the nose with that number. I'll give you a margin of error of 5 either way. I'm being generous today.
All right, good job. Take a knee. You can find the answers here.
Some of you did great. It is clear to see that you have been working. Others need a little work. If you didn't know half of the answers today, maybe you should get a copy of the NU media guide and commit it to memory. Come on, it's only a couple hunderd pages. Slackers.
Now, hit the showers.

Totally off topic, but I don't know how many of you guys know about this. Here is an article where is say Huskers fans went on to a Mizzu website, and started talking trash (aparently).
Well to make a long story short, Mizzu fans are trying to keep NE fans out of Memorial Stadium that day. I ask one question as Huskers fans are we going to allow this? No; so go out and get your tickets now. This is the best way to support the Huskers on one of there toughest road games!
P.S.
Here is the link, I hope it works. If not you can go to the Wizzard Of Odds blog and get linked up there.

Thanks for the heads up, Navy Sker.
That story has been added to "the wire" on the BRN front page.

Thanks Darren,
Just doing my part. I hope we can get the word out!
On another note the second Husker game I ever watched was down in Mizzu, we sat on the rocks, and a 30 some year old lady drinking Peppermint Schnapps was talking trash to me the whole game, and intermittently peeing on the rocks. Needless to say that was the Huskers first lose to them in about 32 years if I am correct.
I really don't like Missery fans!

I'm really starting to dislike the "Misery" fans about as much as I do the Colorado fans. What a bunch of junk.
It makes me proud to be a husker fan.We wouldn't do something like that.
What is wrong with people?Thats bringing money and revenue to their crappy state.I'd think they would welcome that....whatever.
GBR!!!!

Cmon, "nebgirl". Missouri is certainly not a "crappy state". We may not like their fans or their team but have you been to Missouri? More like God's country and less like "god forsaken" counry. Lots of good clear water there. Got your point though, "nebgirl".

I live in Missouri and the biggest problem here is that the Mizzou fans think they have to be the loudest, most outspoken fans. They think they are the "true" non-fairweather fans. They have to act like that because they are outnumbered! At least two-thirds of the people I know are fans of other teams. We've got K.Staters, Jayhawks, and Lots of Huskers around here. The Tigers have got to feel like they're outnumbered. This is on the Kansas City side of the State. It's just as bad on the St. Louis side because there are so many Illini, Mich, Ohio, Indy, Wisconsin people over there. The only areas that don't feel the pinch of lacking Tiger fans is the area within a 200mi. radius of Columbia.
