2007 Opponent Preview…Colorado
There’s no doubt that Colorado will improve in 2007. The question is, how much. Last year, Bernard Jackson completed fewer than half his passes and the Buffalo offense finished dead last in the Big 12. Their defense played admirably as they finished sixth in the conference in points allowed.
Freshman quarterback (and coach’s son) Cody Hawkins is the hope for the future. He hasn't lost a game as a starter going back to sixth grade. He completed 72 percent of his passes as a high school senior and was the two-time state Player of the Year in Idaho. It’s a good bet that he can improve on the passing accuracy from a year ago. P.T. Gates, a smallish five-star junior college recruit will join the mix at running back. They also landed five-star offensive lineman Ryan Miller of Littleton, CO who could see time by season’s end.
So there are plenty of reasons to believe that the offense will be better. The Buffs lost an all-conference defensive end but otherwise return seven starters on defense. The schedule will be tricky as some of the tougher opponents come to Boulder (OU, Missouri, Nebraska) while the weaker teams will be playing at home (Baylor, Kansas St., Iowa St.). If the Buffs fail to improve, they could again find themselves 2-10. But you’d expect at least one or two non-conference victories and then up to four wins in conference (Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State).
The scariest thing for the Huskers is both the youth of Colorado and their history of saving their best performance for Nebraska. Colorado’s newcomers will have up to eleven games of experience by the time the Huskers come to town so Hawkins, Gates, and Miller could all be playing at a high level. The Buffs could also be sitting at five or six wins and fighting to get a bowl bid. So despite Colorado’s ten losses in 2006, you can’t ink in an automatic win for Nebraska just yet.

I'm just cruising here under the radar pretty much(and on Corn Nation). This one just got a bit 'o real time going, so there's the opportunity for more action. Invite all the good peeps from LitR; not too many trolls over here.
Anyway, I'm kinda bUzzy this evening since I went to the bar ro douse a subpar day at work. The music in my car stereo riding home was exremely intense--wow!
So will comment on Puffs sometime soon, when I come up with a new Puff poem.

I will have to backup "nebgirl" about Buff fans and they can be a rough crowd. Never been to Folsom field but although the campus is supposed to be the prettist in the Big 12, I'm not sure I would want to wear my teams gear there and get my ass kicked by the angriest hippies in the world. Despite the "view". Just too many of them to deal with and come out in one piece. Years ago, CU fans were guilty of throwing "frozen" oranges and an OU coach was hit by a bottle. Anyway, in sticking with Jason's wishes to stay on subject, I do think that CU just has to be better. Just can't get any worse, really. Coach Hawkins seems to be a guy we might hear good things from in the future (in the conference). He does know how to utilize talent but I'm not sure how good he is as a recruiter.

Was just reading about another committ...although very soft...out of Wichita,Ks.Darius Parish, defensive tackle.Don't get me wrong about verbal committs, but February is A LONG ways away. And he said he was still looking at other university's.
Trying to wrap up the scholarship just in case?
Not sure how I feel about that.I guess that's how it goes.

I live in Wichita but not familiar with the name Darius Parish. I've been out of the High School scene for many years, though. I would like to mention that I was attending Southeast High school, here in Wichita when former NU Tailback Jeff Smith was on our SE Buffalo Football team. Didn't know him personally but it was a giant deal when he signed with NU. Awesome guy and last I heard, he was a Probation Officer here in town. Just thought you all might care to know.
