Huskers Nab Two More

The Huskers received their second and third commitments in less than a week for the class of 2008 when defensive end Josh Williams and wide receiver D.J. Woods chose Nebraska.

Both are three-star players out of high school and both had a number of suitors. Williams, a Texan, had offers from other Big 12 teams like Missouri, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. A good way to maintain an edge on conference competition is to win these face-offs. Woods, an Ohio native, had offers from Auburn, Iowa, Penn State, and Pittsburgh.

Woods is the third commit linked to NU’s recent hire of Joe Rudolph as an assistant coach. Rudolph is credited with landing linebacker Doug Rippy, also from Ohio, and assisting in landing tight end Tyson Hetzer. While we have yet to see what Rudolph offers in terms of on-the-field coaching, it’s clear that he’s an asset in recruiting, particularly with his connections in talent-rich Ohio.

The Huskers now have eighteen commits for the class of 2008 (that is, if you include 2006 recruit Ricky Henry whose offer is still contingent on his academics). The Huskers have filled up more than half their class (it’s been estimated that Nebraska may accept up to 28 commitments for the class of 2008). With just over six months to go, the pace of these commitments is sure to slow. The Huskers still have nearly all of their formal visit slots available and can spend the season courting the last batch of players they covet. That means they can also get a jump on the class of 2009.

Offensively, they could use more help at tight end, fullback, offensive line, and running back. Defensively, they could use defensive tackles, and cornerbacks. It appears likely they’ll add more safeties and probably another wide receiver. With as much time as there is remaining, the Huskers should easily fill any position where they see need.

These are in addition to Will Compton, correct?

Any 'specs' on these 3?

For DJ Woods, the number 4.35 comes to mind. As well as the offer that Steve didn't mention: Ohio State.

Getting a guy with a Buckeye offer is like keeping Givens when UT offered.
