This week the Big 12 is hosting Media Days which gives just about every journalist between Waco, NE and Waco, TX a chance to interview coaches and players and make their pre-season predictions. Of course, no bloggers are invited (not that we asked).

Not much respect for good ole NU? I guess you do have to earn it on the field, one question though TX AM for defense? Please..........

I like the DT-DE combination A&M has with Bryant and Harrington (not to mention the mammoth DT Heard and some depth behind those guys) and they bring back 3 starters in their secondary (plus Pugh who looks like a star in the making). Linebacker Misi Tupe was Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Mark Dodge may be a new starter, but he's 26-year's old. There's a lot to like about their defense (the Cal game aside).

They still run the 4-2-5 right? Name me one other big time program that runs that defense.

Steve Jul 28 07

Good point there. I've never heard the 4-2-5 "sales pitch" as to why you'd want to run it. You'd think it might be good for facing spread offenses like Texas Tech. But then they go and lose at home to the Red Raiders.

But to quote Darren, defense is more about your Jimmy's and Joe's than your X's and O's. It's their talent that I like, and this will only be year two under Gary Darnell.

If they are in the wrong position, I don't care how fast or strong they are. I understand players make plays, but where there is smoke there is fire.
