Sean Fisher Joins Husker 2008 Class
Millard North senior-to-be Sean Fisher has given his verbal commitment to join Nebraska's 2008 recruiting class. The 6-5 inch, 210 lb safety and linebacker prospect was on hand for NU football camp this week, and came to his decision. Fisher chose NU over a myriad of other schools from around the country. And, his choice of NU comes on the heals of a former Millard North player asking to be released from his scholarship.
Fisher was the object of many coach's desire. He had more than a dozen interested schools making offers, including Oklahoma from the Big 12, Iowa from the Big 10, and Arkansas from the SEC. Forgetting his measurables and rating for a minute, any time that many programs agree about a prospect, it is a good sign.
Fisher exemplifies a new trend in recruiting to a player's physical "upside". At 6'5'' and just 210 pounds, he has the potential to fill out in to a number of possible position. Most likely, he projects as a strong side linebacker. While not as highly rated as Blake Lawrence in the 2007 class, he appears to be a similar type of player.
Fisher becomes the ninth player to verbally commit to NU for the 2008 class. He is also the fourth player from the state of Nebraska to do so. Baker Steinkuhler, Trevor Robinson, and Collins Okafor are the others. These early commitments offer a hint that it could be a pretty banner year for Division 1 scholarship prospects among the ranks of NE high school players. I don't think Fisher will be the last Nebraskan to choose NU.
Finally, Fisher is the product of one of the state's powerhouse programs, Millard North. Eric Crouch's alma mater has not always been a direct pipeline to NU in recent years, with several prospects choosing Iowa instead. And, the recent departure of Millard North graduate Corey Young compounds this point. So, my biggest concern is NU's ability to retain Fisher's commitment until signing day.
I'm thrilled he picked NU. He's one heck of a prospect. But, I'm not counting any chickens before they hatch.

I mean, why not stay in Nebraska? Athletically, a baby Brian Urlacher comes to mind. Good, good signal! Been sensitive to signals, lately. And yes Darren, a strongside 'backer would be a welcome addition.
