Hot Leads for 2008
The Huskers (as is true for most programs) have made a number of early offers to prospects for 2008. Some have resulted in early commitments while many of the players have yet to give much indication (at least to the public) of where they’re likely to end up. But according to Scout.com, there are at least five players that Nebraska has offered that place Nebraska on their short list. Here’s a quick look at some prospects to watch over the next several months.
Blaine Gabbert is a four-star quarterback prospect out of Missouri. His short list appears to include Nebraska, Missouri, and Alabama. That could mean Nebraska’s game in Columbia this year could determine the Big 12 North for more than just one year. If Gabbert winds up in Alabama then it will be just another reason not to like Nick Saban.
Sean Fisher is a three-star linebacker from Millard North. The good news is Nebraska is alone at present atop his short list. The bad news is something has kept him from committing. I fear it may be a wish to attend Oklahoma. You hate to think a Nebraskan would turn his back on the Big Red.
Michael Shaw is a three-star running back from Ohio. He puts Nebraska on his short list with Cincinnati, Iowa, and West Virginia. His teammate, wide receiver Roy Roundtree has also got Nebraska on his short list along with Cincinnati (who has yet to offer).
Finally, Nebraska continues to build bridges to Arizona with its offer to wide receiver Jake Muasau. Right now Nebraska’s the only team on his short list, but it’s also the only team known to have offered him.
Things will change a lot between now and signing day (they always do). But for now, these might be the guys most likely to commit next.

A few tidbits on a couple of these players.
Gabbert is supposedly leaning heavily toward NU right now. Apparently he has the ability to run, so he liked MU's "spread" attack. Callahan and company's pitch was - NFL QBs don't run around. And, we're making NFL QBs. That pitch, combined with having family in Omaha, has Gabbert looking more "N" every day.
And, Sean Fisher apparently has more than a dozen offers. The kid is getting serious attention. And, at 6'5'' and 210 pounds, he should be.
